Overall marks for PO4(a) [10 marks]
Objectives
Introducing surveying instruments available at College of Engineering,
UNITEN.
Methodology
Apparatus:
1. Automatic Level
2. Digital Theodolite
3. Traversing Target
4. Tripod
5. Levelling Staff
6. Measuring Tape
7. Hammer and Nails
8. Spray Paint
9. Staff Bubble
Procedure:
1. Students have experienced holding and observing all the surveying equipment at
College of Engineering, UNITEN.
2. Students have discussed about the instruments regarding the usage, handling
method, rules, and regulation for borrowing, using and returning the instruments.
Results, Analysis and Discussion
5 Levelling staff
is a graded hardwood or
aluminum rod that is
used to measure the
heights of points above
a vertical datum or the
difference in height
between two points
when used with a
leveling instrument.
6 Staff bubble
It’s a small circular
bubble on an angle plate
which is held against
one corner of the staff
to ensure that the staff is
held in a vertical
position.
7 Measuring tape
used to measure lengths
along a straight line.
Tapes used in surveying
are usually long,
bendable, and made of
steel or fibreglass.
8 Hammer and nails
Used to set benchmarks,
temporary markings,
securing targets and
marking the control
points.
9 Spray paint
Among the ground
marking tools used by
utility locators, land
surveyors, and other
professionals who must
mark locations on the
ground are spray paints.
Conclusion
Safety is important when working on any job, but for some careers it is of utmost
importance. Besides, civil engineering students should know and expertise about all
surveying equipment before proceeding with other practical training.
