Does the writer give their personal opinion or not?

There is an old Latin saying according to which a healthy mind is to be found in a

healthy body. Therefore we should practise sport, if we want to be healthy and keep fit. Some
people agree that any type of sport invigorates and strengthens your body, enriches your
blood circulation, airs your brain and makes you feel refreshed and relaxed. However,
another great number of people consider that certain sports, such as boxing, rugby,
bullfighting, car racing and some martial arts, are dangerous to a high extent, causing injuries
and bad accidents.
Those who believe that practising any sport is useful, mention first of all the positive
effect on the body – you become healthier – and the consequence in time – you live longer. In
addition to this, many admit that they feel less aggressive or nervous. Or even further, they
feel more confident, more powerful. For these people, there is no such thing as a violent
sport. In their opinion, only some supporters of some sports behave violently, but not the
players. Last of all, the final argument for accepting all sports as they are, is the idea that
from time immemorial, men have been fighting either among themselves or with animals, for
purely aesthetic reasons. Thus, fighting as a form of play is a natural part of the human
character. In conclusion, any sport is worth practising as it develops your personality and
trains you to overcome your animal instincts, reaching a higher lever of self-confidence and
self-control.
On the other hand, there is a large number of people who talk about violence in
connection to sport. On the ground that you need a long time to recover from a defeat, some
say that even chess is a destructive, violent game. To begin with, they all mention that the act
of competing in itself encourages people to become enemies, instead of bringing people
closer together. Besides, in some sports, one man can cause to others fatal or irreversible
damage. Another thing they complain about is that such kind of sports bring out the worst of
a person’s nature. The ones that practise violent sports become so acquainted with the idea of
fighting or racing that they behave as such even outside the ring or the stadium, in normal
situations, when they shouldn’t act as if they are in a competition. What is more, they point
out the negative influence of these sports on the spectators: they seem to be waiting for
something terrible to happen – an accident, blood, tragedy, death. All in all, such violent
sports turn the clock backwards and reduce you once again to the level of animals, instead of
leading you to a higher spiritual level. To sum up, for many people these violent ‘activities’,
although very popular (especially among teenagers) shouldn’t be accepted or called sports.
