III. PROCEDURES

A.
a. Review:

Show videos of events or scenarios and let the learners show their reactions using the
emoticons.

1. Burning house
2. Having a perfect score in exam
3. Sad baby
4. Man chasing by a dog

What is a Reaction?
A reaction is a feeling we give on a certain situation a person is experiencing. In giving
reaction, emotions are needed.

In giving reactions, one should put first himself/ herself to the situation embedded with
emotions. You cannot give reactions without emotions on it.

b. Motivation:
The teacher provides papers of letters. Those papers will be placed under the armchair of some of the
pupils.
Teacher will say:
Some of your seats have pieces of colored paper with letters written on them. Find these
papers, go in front, tap and change the color.

What words were formed from the letters that you found?

a. Presentation :
The teacher will present a short video.

1. The Life of Dr. Jose Rizal.


b. Discussion

1. Who is our National Hero?


2. Who is Dr. Jose Rizal’s first teacher?
3. Why is he considered a hero?

Now I will show you objects and tell me what do you like best?

1. What is your favorite color?


Green or Blue?
2. Who is the smartest pet in the world?
Dog or Cat?
3. What is your favorite dessert?
Halo-Halo or Ice cream

Now I want you to read the set of sentences here on the board.

SET A

1. Jose Rizal is our National Hero.


2. Jose Rizal is from Calamba, Laguna.
3. The first teacher of Rizal was his mother.

SET B

1. Dog is the smartest pet in the world.


2. Ice cream is sweeter than halo-halo.
3. Color green is prettier than blue.

Sentences in SET A are facts while sentences in SET B are opinion.

Distinguishing Fact from opinion:

FACTS OPINION
Objective statements that can be verified by third Subjective statements that may or may not be
parties/reliable sources entirely true as they colored the opinions of the
speaker.
Tip: Ask yourself, Can it be proven?” What is stated may differ across sources of
Evidence to support a fact can be easily found in information
books as well as by searching online using
reliable sources of information, such as the
websites of reputable educational institutions.
They do not support only one perspective. Might be written in a way to try to persuade the
reader to believe in what he or she saying.
Biased words express opinions, judgements and
other interpretations. Often, they are full of
emotions.

PRACTICE EXERCISE

Tell me whether the sentences is a fact or an opinion.

1. 9 multiplied by 9 is 81?
2. The doctor says during exercise, heart pumps more oxygen to the body.
3. There is 10 apples in the basket?
4. I enjoy walking because it helps me appreciate nature more.
5. The heart normally beats faster when you do vigorous walk.

c. Generalization

How can we differentiate fact from opinion?

d. Application
To widen more your knowledge, proceed to Group Activity.
The teacher will ask the things pupils need to consider when doing the group activity as well as the allotted
time for the task to be done. Pupils are given only 5 minutes to finish the task.

Group 1:

What can you say about the picture? Make 2 sentences of fact and 2 opinion sentences from this picture.

Group 2:
Pretend that you are a reporter. Report the school encampment that occurred using fact and opinion
sentences in your reporting.

Group 3:
Create a song that will show the difference between fact and opinion.

Group 4:
SMILE- Toothpaste with fluoride. For extra protection against tooth decay. Smile has fluoride and
mouthwash. Brushing teeth prevents tooth decay.

Read these sentences. Write F if the sentence tells a fact and O if the sentence tells an opinion.

_____3. Smile has fluoride.
_____4. Smile is the only toothpaste that contains fluoride.

IV. Evaluation:
BUTTERFLIES

Butterflies are flying insects with large scaly wings. Like all insects, they have six jointed
legs, three body parts, a pair of antennae, compound eyes and exoskeleton. The three body parts are

the head, the thorax and the abdomen. They usually drink nectars from flowers as their food source.
Most butterflies have taste receptors on their feet.
I can say that butterflies are attractive and harmless insects. I think these insects are nature's
most beautiful creatures. I love their different colors. Scientists believe there are about 24,000
different species of butterflies. Butterflies seem to be very amazing insects.

From the selection that you had read, tell whether the sentence is a FACT or an OPINION. Write your
answer on your paper.
