Task: Patient Handover and Communication
Subtasks:
o Conduct shift handover and receive patient updates.
o Receive and review handover reports from the morning shift.
o Receive and review handover reports from the evening shift.
o Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team during rounds.
o Communicate any changes in patient status to the physician.
o Communicate patient status to the on-call physician as needed.
o Educate family members about patient status and care plans.

Task: Patient Assessment and Monitoring
Subtasks:
o Perform initial assessments of the mother upon admission.
o Conduct patient assessments at the start of the shift.
o Monitor and document vital signs of the mother and fetus regularly.
o Monitor the progress of labour, including cervical dilation and effacement.
o Monitor fetal heart rate and contractions.
o Respond to any patient alarms or emergencies.
o Perform patient safety checks.
o Assess pain levels and manage pain relief options.
Task: Medication Administration and Management
Subtasks:
o Administer medications to the mother as per prescription.
o Manage IV fluids for the mother if required.
o Administer epidural or spinal anesthesia as per protocol.
o Administer oxytocin or other medications to induce or augment labour.
o Administer medications for pain management.
o Monitor and manage any side effects of medications.
Task: Patient Care and Hygiene
Subtasks:
o Assist with personal hygiene of the mother.
o Ensure the mother is comfortable and assist with repositioning.
o Provide perineal care during labour.
o Assist with bladder emptying (e.g., catheterization if necessary).
o Support and assist mothers with breathing techniques and labour positions.
o Educate mothers on labour and delivery processes.
Task: Diagnostic Tests and Procedures
Subtasks:
o Draw blood for lab tests for the mother.
o Prepare mothers for any diagnostic tests or procedures.
o Perform fetal monitoring tests (e.g., non-stress tests, biophysical profiles).
o Collect and send samples for lab tests.
Task: Patient Support and Safety
Subtasks:
o Provide emotional support to mothers and families during labour.
o Assist with early mobilization post-delivery if applicable.
o Ensure all tubes and drains (e.g., urinary catheters) are functioning properly.
o Ensure all emergency equipment is ready and functional.
o Manage and restock supplies for the unit.
o Ensure patient privacy and confidentiality.
o Provide education on labour, delivery, and postpartum care.
Task: Record Keeping and Updates
Subtasks:
o Update care plans based on assessments of the mother and fetus.
o Update the care plan and patient records regularly.
o Maintain accurate and thorough patient records for both mother and baby.
Task: Infection Control and Education
Subtasks:
o Adhere to infection control protocols.
o Educate mothers on infection prevention during labour and delivery.
o Participate in continuing education and training
