Understanding Offers
What is the meaning of offer in English? Offers are a way to offer something to other people.
The person who receives the offer also has the right to accept or reject it. The expression
offer has formal and informal forms.

Understanding Suggestion
Suggestion is an expression of advice conveyed to another person and generally that person
has a problem that needs to be resolved. However, suggestions can also be followed or not.
There is no compulsion to always accept suggestions.

What is the Function of Offers and Suggestions?


The offers and suggestions social function has a different purpose. The following is a review
of the function of offers and suggestions in English material.

Offers function
Offers have a simple function. People who express offers mean they have something to offer
the person they are talking to. Usually, offers are used in a positive context. For example, a
host who offers a drink menu to his guests.

Suggestion function
In contrast to that, suggestions in offers and suggestions material are suggestions given to
someone. Advice does not always involve the person giving the advice themselves. On the
other hand, listeners can also follow suggestions or not. For example, you advise a friend to
take leave when they are sick.

What are examples of offers and suggestions sentences?


In class 11 suggestion and offering material, you will learn various kinds of sentences that
describe situations when you make suggestions or offer something. The following are
several examples of suggestion sentences and their responses.

Examples of offers sentences


The sentence offer is an expression expressed by someone to offer something to someone
else. The following are examples of offer expressions in several different situations.

1. Offer sentences in the school area


Do you want to play hockey with me? (Do you want to play hockey with me?)
Would you mind if I helped you bring the books upstairs? (Would you mind if I help you carry
your books upstairs?)
Anything that I can help you, sir? (Is there anything I can do, sir?)
Would you like to eat lunch together with me at the park? (Would you like to have lunch with
me in the park?)
I brought some biscuits from home. Would you like some? (I brought some biscuits from
home. Do you want some?)

2. Offer sentences in the home area


Would you like some ice cream or smoothie? (Do you want ice cream or smoothie juice?)
Would you like to have some apple cake? (Do you want apple cake?)
Do you want some lunch here? (Would you like to have lunch here?)
Would you come to the wedding party? (Will you come to my sister's wedding?)
May I help you clean the kitchen? (Can I help you clean the kitchen?)

Examples of Suggestion Sentences


Suggestion sentences are expressions used by someone that contain certain suggestions.
Here are 5 examples of suggestion sentences in English, both asking and giving.

1. Asking suggestions or asking for advice


Any suggestions on what I should do? (What should my nest do?)
Would you mind giving me any suggestions about this issue? (Would you mind giving me
any suggestions regarding this issue?)
Any advice to share? (Would you mind giving advice?)
What do you think I should do? (What do you think I should do?)
What should I do? (What should I do?)

2. Giving suggestions or giving suggestions


Shall we go to the movies tonight? (Shall we watch a movie tonight?)
How about having dinner at a Japanese restaurant? (How about having dinner at a
Japanese restaurant later?)
You should see a skin specialist soon. (You should go to a skin specialist ASAP).
Shall we watch cartoons? (What if we watch cartoons?)
You should bring lunch every day. (You should bring a packed lunch every day).

Example of Offer Response


Other people may offer you something. A good attitude is to respond, whether in the form of
accepting the offer or gently rejecting it. The following is the correct response when receiving
an offer.

I don't mind it. Thank you. (I don't mind. Thank you).

Example of Suggestion Response


You can accept or reject suggestions when other people submit suggestions. Below are
some responses when people give suggestions.

I will consider it. (I'll consider it).
You help me that much. Thank you. (You've helped, thank you).
It is very helpful. (That helps a lot).
I doubt I can do that. (I'm not sure I can do it).

Offers and suggestions have become part of the phenomenon of our daily interactions.
That's why it is very important to study this material so that you can express it correctly. You
