TECHNOLOGY AND LOGISTICS

Integrating technology in logistics is

essential for enhancing efficiency,
visibility, customer experience, and
sustainability while reducing costs and
mitigating risks. It allows logistics
companies to stay competitive in an
increasingly complex and dynamic

BLOCKCHAIN

Blockchain in logistics utilizes a

decentralized ledger to track, verify,
and secure transactions and supply
chain data, enhancing transparency,
traceability, and security throughout
the logistical process.
GPS (Global Positioning System)

GPS or Global Positioning System, is a satellite-

based navigation system. It provides location and
time information worldwide, widely used for
navigation and mapping.

TELEMATICS

Telematics is a technology that combines telecommunications and

informatics to transmit data over long distances. It is commonly used in
vehicles to gather and transmit information about their location, speed,
fuel usage, and other diagnostics. This data can be used for various
purposes such as vehicle tracking, fleet management, insurance, and
more efficient routing and scheduling in logistics.
Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) are digital
Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) tools used in the logistics industry to record
and monitor the driving hours and other
compliance-related data of commercial motor
vehicle drivers. They replace traditional
paper logbooks and automatically track
driving time, engine hours, vehicle movement,
and location information. ELDs help ensure
compliance with regulations set by
authorities. promoting safety, accuracy, and
efficiency in the management of driver hours
and rest periods.
Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is a system
that enables the electronic exchange of
Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) business documents between different
companies in a standardized format. It allows
for the transfer of various documents, such as
purchase orders, invoices, and shipping
notices, seamlessly between trading partners'
computer systems. EDI streamlines
communication and data exchange, reducing
manual processing, errors, and processing
time. It is commonly used in supply chain
management, logistics, and other industries
to improve efficiency and collaboration
between businesses.
Warehouse automation involves the use of
WAREHOUSE AUTOMATION technology and machinery to automate tasks within
a warehouse or distribution center. This includes
systems such as Automated Storage and Retrieval
Systems (AS/RS), conveyor systems, and pick-to-
light systems. Additionally, Automated Guided
Vehicles (AGVs) and robotics play significant roles
in handling tasks like picking, packing, and sorting.
Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) integrate
with these automation technologies to optimize
operations. Overall, warehouse automation
improves efficiency, accuracy, and productivity
while reducing labor costs and errors.
Barcodes are graphical representations of
BARCODES
data encoded in parallel lines of varying
widths and spacing. They are printed on
products, packages, or documents and are
scanned using barcode scanners or mobile
devices equipped with cameras. Barcodes
serve to uniquely identify items and facilitate
automated tracking, inventory management,
and transactions in various industries,
including retail, logistics, healthcare, and
manufacturing.
QR or Quick Response Code QR, short for Quick Response, is a two-
dimensional barcode that can store a
significant amount of information compared
to traditional one-dimensional barcodes. QR
codes consist of black squares arranged on a
white square grid, typically with a square
border around them. They can be scanned
using smartphones or dedicated QR code
readers, allowing users to access embedded
information such as URLs, text, contact
details, or other data.
Radio Frequency Identification Device
(RFID)

A Radio Frequency Identification Device

(RFID) is a technology that uses
electromagnetic fields to automatically
identify and track tags attached to objects.
These tags contain electronically stored
information, which can be read remotely
using RFID readers or antennas.
