Standard Blasting Procedures

1.0 Objective
To ensure safe and efficient charging and blasting of explosives.

2.0 Scope
This procedures covers all areas that require explosives handling, loading/charging, and blasting.

3.0 Roles and Responsibilities


Listed below are the roles and responsibilities of the individuals involved in this document.

Shift Manager Overall in charge of the mine operations during the shift.
Responsible in the implementation of approved plans/layout from
MEDCD.
Shift Superintendents  Oversees the operations of all production or development activities
during the shift. Responsible for shift manpower and equipment
distribution.
 Personally oversees the charging of explosives at critical sites (poor
ground conditions, presence of fixed equipment, air / water / power
lines / sources, etc.).
Development and  Responsible in the assignment and supervision of designated
Production Shift production or development activities and manpower.
Supervisor  Directs and maintains a record of the sounding and/or charging of
each blast hole.
 Informs the SM, SS, Control Room Tender, and Safety Inspector of the
total charge loaded at the blast site.
 Assigns the post of guards.
Safety Inspector  Gives the clearance to initiate the blasting.
 Ensures that blasting notification boards are updated and visible all
the times.
Development Miner  Responsible in performing all development activities.
 Performs sounding and charging of each blast hole as instructed by the
supervisor.
 • Along with a fellow miner, guards the loaded site until spitting time.

4.0 Definition of Terms


(Includes all terms that the Process owner believes would be helpful in better understanding the
process)
(Do not include "positions" such as Accountant, Cashier, Manager, Inspector, etc.)
5.0 Work Flow (You can use Power Visio in creating a workflow, Make sure that all forms in the
attachment are mentioned somewhere appropriate in the "details" Column)

 Do not attempt to perform without training without prior training.
 Read and Understand SOP and corresponding equipment manual
 All employees reporting to work should be well rested and not under the influence of liquor or
any prohibited drugs
 Personnel must be well informed of the communication signals used in their respective areas and
must practice them with caution.
 Never work without a fire extinguisher in place.
 For first aid measures, Handling, and Storage refer to the safety data sheet.
 Implement the LOTO system.
 Maintain proper housekeeping.

process. Revision will depend on the outcome of the review.
