Certainly, job performance can be influenced by various factors, some beyond our control and some

of them are a result of poor management or lack of foresight. Here are some of these factors and
their impact on project performance:

Weather Conditions
Weather is probably the most common and most obvious reason for work slowdown
Adverse weather can lead to work slowdowns, increased costs, and reduced work quality. Delays due
to weather can also affect project scheduling.

Under this are some samples of weather conditions that can impact construction projects:

Flooding
Heavy rain and flooding can cause damage to construction sites, delay work, and increase
costs.

Heat and sun

High temperatures and extreme sunlight can cause discomfort, lower productivity, and
increase the risk of heat-related illnesses

Extreme Weather Events

Severe weather events such as typhoons and earthquakes can cause significant damage to
construction sites, leading to costly repairs and delays in work

Quality of the Workforce

The quality of workers provided by subcontractors can affect work quality, safety, and project
progress. Poor work quality may result in rework, delays, and increased costs.

Quality of Supervision
Effective project supervision is essential for addressing daily issues and maintaining project progress.
Inexperienced or ineffective supervisors can lead to project disasters.

Incorrect Sequencing of Work

Scheduling work out of sequence to meet unrealistic demands can lead to inefficiencies, delays, and
disruptions in the project schedule.

Change Orders
Unmanaged or unanticipated change orders can accumulate and disrupt project schedules and
budgets. Failing to account for additional time needed for changes can lead to delays.
Under this we need the
Proper Documentation
Record all changes to the original contract in writing and ensure that all parties agree to the
change before work resumes

Client Communication
Keep the client informed of any changes to the original contract and explain the reasons for
the change in detail

Budget and Payment

Ensure that the cost of the change is reflected in the project budget and that the client has
agreed to the cost before work resumes
Overcrowded Job Site
Overcrowding with too many workers can hinder productivity and lead to inefficiencies, conflicts, and
work slowdowns.

Under this there are some causes of overcrowded job site, which are

 Overcrowding increases the risk of accidents and injuries, which can lead to
downtime, increased costs, and lower productivity

 Overcrowding can make it difficult for workers to move around the site and access the
tools and equipment they need to perform their work

 Overcrowding can lead to delays in work, which can increase costs and cause the
project to go over budget

Defective Materials

Discovering defective materials after work has started can lead to wasted time, additional costs, and
schedule delays. Quality control is essential to avoid this issue.

To avoid this issue we need to do the:

Inspections
Inspect all materials upon delivery and reject any that do not meet the required
specifications
Documentation
Document all defective materials and report them to the supplier to get replacements
Tracking
Keep track of all materials used in the project to ensure that only high-quality materials are
being used

Inadequate Tools and Equipment

The lack of proper tools and equipment can lead to work being done improperly or delayed. This can
affect both project quality and progress.

Late Deliveries
Delayed deliveries of materials or equipment can disrupt project schedules and lead to increased
costs. Expedited delivery management is essential for critical items.

So, it's important for construction managers to be proactive in identifying and mitigating these factors
to minimize their impact on project performance. Effective project planning, risk management, and
communication with subcontractors and stakeholders can help address these challenges as they arise,
ensuring that the project stays on track and meets its goals. Construction managers must be flexible
and responsive to changes and disruptions to ensure the successful completion of their projects.

In construction management, it's crucial to have contingency plans in place for these factors and to
maintain effective communication and coordination among all stakeholders to address issues as they
arise. Being proactive in risk management, quality control, and resource allocation can help minimize
the negative impacts of these factors on project performance.
