Set up Reference Datums (1)

1. Go to the Templates pane > Datums

folder.
a. Select Seismic
Reference Datum (SRD)
OR
b. Right-click Datums and
select Insert new
datum.
2. Double-click Datums to

Lesson 2: Seismic Data Loading

Seismic Main Folder

1. In the menu bar, select Insert >

New seismic main folder.
Find it in the Input pane with
predefined subfolders:
▪ Vintages 2
▪ Interp survey inclusion filters
▪ Interpretation folder with an
active seismic horizon. 1

2. Use the Insert menu. You also

can right-click the Seismic main
folder and select Insert 1
seismic survey.
Load Seismic Data (1)

1. Right-click a survey
folder and select
2
Import (on selection)
to open the Import file 1
dialog.
2. Choose the file and its
type. Click Open.
3. Set corresponding data
type (2D/3D), define
3
vintage and Line
detection method.
Load Seismic Data (2)

4. Change Line detection 5. Scan a specified number

method to Trace of traces to QC
headers fields. If you 5 parameters.
need, check the
headers and adjust:
▪ Inline/crossline
number byte 4
positions for 3D data
▪ CDP and SP byte
position for 2D lines.

Note: With Line detection

method > Automatic, the
most likely line/inline and trace/crossline headers are selected from trace headers analysis. In this
case, scanning is unavailable because the headers are undetermined until the SEGY file is read.
Load Seismic Data (3)

7
6. In the Input data dialog, choose a
color template and a domain.
8 7. Create or/add a Vintage.
8. Specify the CRS of the loaded
seismic if it differs from the project
CRS.
Note: CRS transformations can also be done by exporting to file or using the Reference
project tool.
Edit and Assign Vintages (1)

Vintages are different

versions of the same
seismic data.
Full Offset Stack Near Offset Stack

1. Go to the Input pane or the Seismic interpretation toolbar

(near the status bar) to find the available vintages.
Edit and Assign Vintages (2)

2. Open the Settings dialog box to edit

2
vintage names.
3. Display one line in an Interpretation
window or several lines in a 3D
window from various seismic cubes. 4
4. Assign different vintages to each
line from the Seismic interpretation
toolbar or Input pane.
5. Activate the Seismic interpretation process and click or in the
function bar to scroll through all vintage selections for an intersection.
Load Check Shots

1. Right-click the Wells folder 1

and use Import (on
selection) to open the
Import dialog. 3
2. Set Files of type to
Checkshots format
(ASCII) (*.*). 4
2
3. Choose one or more files
to import.
4. Click Open.
Load Check Shots: Parameters and QC (1)

1. Fit input parameters (A) to A

file (B). 2
2. Verify Connect to trace and
Number of header lines. 3
1
3. Choose a time and depth
datum.

B
Load Check Shots: Parameters and QC (2)

4. Right-click Checkshots in the Global well logs folder and select

Spreadsheet.

5. Change depth from MD

to TVDSS and compare
TVDSS and TWT with
input files and other
time-depth information.
Transfer Data Through the Reference Project Tool

1. In menu bar, select File > Reference project tool.

2. Choose a Background project .
3. Toggle ON the Background project data check boxes.
4. Click to transfer to the Working project.

Note: Projects must have the same units.

SEG-Y 2D Toolbox

Petrel 2013 introduces the

SEG-Y 2D toolbox.
▪ Use it to load 2D seismic
data with navigation and
header issues.
▪ Works with navigation data
from multiple sources.
Export Seismic Data

Petrel can export seismic data in either SEG-Y

format or ZGY bricked format.
1. Right-click the seismic data and select
Export. 1
2. Specify the output File name and format.
Click Save.
3. Complete the export dialog to create disk
files.

Lesson 3: Optimizing Data for Enhanced

Performance
Prefetch to Cache Seismic Volumes

1. Select Tools > System settings > 1

Seismic tab to set the Seismic

cache size and graphics card
memory.
2. Right-click a seismic cube and select
Prefetch to cache. This loads the
selected volume into the computer’s
RAM for even faster access.
Note: SEG-Y and ZGY volumes can be
prefetched to cache if the volume is not
2
larger than the available cache size.
Crop Seismic Data

1. Right-click the seismic cube and 1

select Insert virtual cropped
volume. A virtual seismic cube
appears under the original seismic
cube with identical geometry.
2. Crop the virtual cube, either:
a. Click Select/pick mode
in the process toolbar and 2
the green handles display in
the 3D window. b
b. Select Settings > Cropping a
Note: A continuous readout of the volume size displays in the
tab and specify line ranges. lower right corner when graphically cropping the cube.
Realize Seismic Data (1)

Realize seismic cube: Create a

new object in ZGY format.

Benefits:
▪ Optimized for 3D handling
▪ Faster to render than SEG-Y.
Realize Seismic Data (2)

1
1. Go to Settings, Operations tab
2
and click the Realize tab.
2. Choose the source amplitude
range and realization quality. Click
Scan.
3. Click Realize. The process status
is found in the Task manager. The 2
realized cube is under the Seismic
3
survey folder in the Input pane.
3
Seismic Calculator

1
1. Right-click the seismic volume
and select Calculator.
2. Enter the equation by typing
and selecting from the seismic
variables and calculator 3
buttons.
3. Use to drop in non-seismic 4
objects (surfaces, functions).
4. Click Enter to run the equation.
A new virtual volume is stored in
the Input pane.

Lesson 4: Mis-Tie 闭合差Analysis

Mis-Tie Analysis

Calculate the mis-ties between

different vintages and create new
versions of the same seismic data
without mis-ties. Mis-tie analysis
are supported for:
◼ multiple seismic surveys in 2D
and 3D
◼ data with different sample rates.
Mis-Tie Workflow (1)

1. Insert the mis-tie set by right-

clicking on the Seismic main folder.
The survey selector showing
selection of multiple surveys
appears.

1
Mis-Tie Workflow (2)

2. Use the Mis-tie manager to control which lines to correct, what,

and how to perform corrections.
2

The original and corrected composite lines show in the Mis-ties folder.
Seismic Mis-Tie: Visualization

Dynamically create composite

lines of mis-tie corrected
seismic data and visualize.
Original and corrected
composite lines appear in the
Input pane under Mis-tie set.
Display mis-tie values in 2D window.

Interactive point set with

attributes is generated for
quality control.
