HYDRAULIC MOTOR EQUATIONS Motor Efficiencies:
Note: Hydraulic motors are typically classified as high Volumetric Efficiency = Actual Speed x 100 speed motors (500 - 10,000 rpm) or low speed motors Theoretical Speed (0 - 1,000) rpm. Mechanical Efficiency = Actual Torque x 100 Relationship between displacement and torque of a Theoretical Torque hydraulic motor: Overall Efficiency = Output HP x 100 T = HP x 63025 ÷ RPM Input HP HP = T x RPM ÷ 63205 RPM = HP x 63025 ÷ T Overall Efficiency = Mech. Eff. x Volumetric Eff.
Note: Theoretical Speed = GPM x 231 ÷ CIR
For Torque in foot-lbs use 5252 in place of 63025 Theoretical Torque (in lbs) = CIR x PSI ÷ 6.28 Input HP = PSI x GPM ÷ 1714 T = CIR x PSI ÷ 6.28 Output HP = T x RPM ÷ 63025 CIR = T ÷ PSI x 6.28 PSI = T x 6.28 ÷ CIR T = Torque, inch-lbs CIR = Cubic Inch (in3) per Revolution T = (GPM x PSI x 36.77) ÷ 6.28 GPM = Flow in gallons per minute GPM = (T ÷ PSI ÷ 36.77) x 6.28 PSI = Pressure difference across motor PSI = (T ÷ GPM ÷ 36.77) x 6.28 RPM = Pump revolutions per minute Note: Note: Divide PSI by Mechanical Efficiency if required. For Torque in foot-lbs use 5252 in place of 63025 For Torque in foot-lbs use 75.36 in place of 6.28 Draw Bar Pull, Moving a load up an incline: T = Torque, inch-lbs CIR = Cubic Inch (in3) per Revolution F = L x sin GPM = Flow in gallons per minute F = Force PSI = Pressure difference across motor W = Weight or load RPM = Pump revolutions per minute sin = Sin of incline or angle HP = Horsepower Rule of thumb: Torque General Info: Grades less than or equal to 100 use the degree of the Torque = Radius x Load angle. Grades greater than 100 use sin.
Torque (in lbs) = Lever Length (in.) x Pull (lbs.) Grade (% of Slope) = Rise ÷ Run
Radius = 1/2 of Diameter Draw Bar Pull, Friction:
Circumference = 3.14 x Diameter F =W x M
Foot Pound = Inch Pound ÷ 12 F = Force
W = Weight or load Inch Pound = Foot Pound x 12 M = Coefficient of friction Motor Speed: Draw Bar Pull, Moving a load up an incline with friction: GPM = RPM x CID ÷ 231 F to move load = (W x sin) + (W x cos x M) RPM = GPM x 231 ÷ CID F to hold load = (W x sin) - (W x cos x M) CID = GPM ÷ RPM x 231 F = Force Speed = (336 x MPH) ÷ Wheel Diameter (in.) W = Weight or load M = Coefficient of friction Side load on pump or motor shaft: sin = Sin of incline or angle F = (HP x 63024) ÷ (RPM x R) cos = Cosine of incline or angle
F = Side load, in pounds, against shaft
R = Pitch radius of sheave on pump shaft, in inches; HP = Driving power applied to shaft.
