PRONOUN VS PRONOMINAL ADJECTIVE
Difference between interrogative pronoun and adjective :
Let us we look at the following sentences −
(1) What book do you want?
(2) Which book is he reading?
(3) Which way leads to the post office?

The above underlined words are adjectives, not interrogative pronouns because these words
are qualifying the nouns.

POSSESSIVE PRONOUN
Possessive Pronoun: এই Pronoun দ্বারা Possession বা অররোর যবাঝার্ া হয়, যেু : Mine, Ours, Yours etc.
উদাহরণ রহর্সর্ব বের্ত পারর,
‘Jane takes pride in Jane’s Outfits.’

It sounds odd to use Jane’s name twice in this sentence. A possessive pronoun solves the
problem. We can say −
‘Jane takes pride in her outfits.’

POSSESSIVE PRONOUN
Independent Possessive Pronouns :
There is also an ‘Independent’ form of each of these pronouns.
Example : Mine, Ours, His, Hers, Its, Theirs.
❑ Independent possessive pronouns must be used without a noun.
Example :
(1) My phone is dead, Pass me yours.
(2) Did you know that Labrador is mine?
(3) The house on the corner is theirs.
❑ It is common to see independent possessive pronouns at the end of clause or phrase.

REFLEXIVE PRONOUN
Reflexive Pronoun: এই pronoun self, selves যোর্ে েরিত হয় এবং েতো ও েুে এেই বযরির্ে যবাঝায়।
যেু : Myself, Ourselves, Yourself, yourselves, himself, herself, themselves, oneself, Itself

উদাহরণ :
(1) I believe in myself.
(2) He does his work by himself.
(3) She is ashamed of herself.

REFLEXIVE PRONOUN
❑ A reflexive pronoun can be a direct object in a sentence When the subject and the direct
object are one and the same.
Example : ‘Jack decided to reward mary. With a dinner out.
Here, Mary is the object of reward, but it we say
‘Jack decided to reward himself with a dinner out’
Then; Jack, the subject, is the object of reward. So we use ‘himself’- the reflexive pronoun.

REFLEXIVE PRONOUN
Reflexive pronoun as indirect object :
Reflexive pronoun can also play the indirect, object role in a sentence.

Example : Cynthia pours a cup of tea for herself every morning.

Here, ‘herself’ is the indirect object and ‘cup of tea’ is the direct object.

Common errors with Reflexive Pronoun:
(1) Incorrect : Andrew and myself will conduct the meeting.
Correct : Andrew and I will conduct the meeting.

(2) Incorrect : You may submit your expenses to myself before Friday.
Correct : You may submit your expenses to me before Friday.

DEMONSTRATIVE PRONOUN
Demonstrative Pronoun: যো রবষয়র্ে র রদেষ্ট ের্র যবাঝার্ত আুরা Demonstrative Pronoun বযবহার েরর।
যেু : this, that, these, those, it etc.

উদাহরণ :

(1) This is a present for my brother.

(2) These mangoes are not as sour as those mangoes.

(3) Darjeeling tea is better than that of Assam.

INDEFINITE PRONOUN
Indefinite Pronoun : সারারণত অর রদেষ্ট যো বযরি বা বস্তুর্ে যবাঝার্ত আুরা Indefinite pronoun বযবহার
েরর।
যেু : Any, one, anyone, some, someone, no one, anybody, somebody, nobody, many,
everyone all etc.

উদাহরণ :
(1) Anybody can do this easy task.
(2) Many of them were injured but a few escaped unhurt

INTERROGATIVE PRONOUN
Interrogative Pronouns : এ ররর্ র Pronoun প্রশ্ন েরার জ য বযবহৃত হয়, এগুর্ো বার্েযর প্রথর্ু বর্স।
যেু : Who, Whose, Whom, Which etc.
Note : One should not get confused between interrogative pronoun and relative Pronoun.

A pronoun is classified as an interrogative when it is used in an inquiring way because


interrogative pronouns are found only in questions.
Example :
(1) What do you want for dinner?
(2) Who has called you?

INTERROGATIVE PRONOUN
In some cases, interrogative pronouns take on the suffix – ‘ever’. A few can also take on the
suffix – ‘soever’

RECIPROCAL PRONOUN
Reciprocal Pronoun : এই Pronoun এোররে বযরি বা বস্তুর ুর্রয পরস্পাররে সম্পেে বুরঝর্য় যদয়।
যেু : Each other, one other.
Example :
(1) Maria and Jessica gave each other books.
(2) The defendants blame one another for the crime they were charged with.
When referring to two people we normally use ‘each other’
In case of more than two people we use ‘one another’

RELATIVE PRONOUN
Omission of the Relative pronoun :
The relative pronoun is generally omitted when it is used as object.
Example :
(1) The man (whom) I invited is my friend.
(2) The book (Which) I am reading is good.
(3) I am the monarch of all (That) I survey.

Position of the Relative pronoun :
To remove ambiguity, the relative pronoun should be placed as near as possible to its
antecedent.
যেু :
(1) Incorrect : The boy saw a dead man who was walking
Correct : The boy who was walking saw a dead man.
(2) Incorrect : The boy is the sun of my friend who won the first prize.
Correct : The boy who won the first prize is the son of my friend.

Compound relative Pronoun :
Compound Relative pronoun are formed by adding ‘ever’ or ‘so ever’ to who, which, what

(ii) For animals unless we clearly wish to speak of them as male or female

(iii) For young child unless we clearly wish to refer to the gender.
When I saw the child, it was crying.
