The approximate fundamental natural period of vibration ( Ta ), in seconds
with brick infill panels, = 0.09 h / Sqrt(d)
Z - direction
Where d = Base dimension of the building at the plinth level, in m, along the
considered direction of the lateral force = 28.150 m.
h = 18.030 m.
Ta = 0.306 sec.
Corresponding value of Sa/g for soil type: Rocky or hard soil
Sa/g = 1 + 15 T 0.000 ≤ T≤ 0.100
2.50 0.100 ≤ T≤ 0.400
1.00 / T 0.400 ≤ T≤ 4.000
0.25 T˃ 4.000
Hence Sa / g = 2.50
Horizontal Seismic Coefficient (Ah) = 0.1 x 1.5 x 2.5 / (2 x 5) = 0.038
X - direction
Where d = Base dimension of the building at the plinth level, in m, along the
considered direction of the lateral force = 51.235 m.
h = 18.030 m.
Ta = 0.227 sec.
Hence Sa / g = 2.50

Weight Calculations:
For mass calculations, average height of wall and water are considered.
mc/m = 0.430
hi/h = 0.375
hi = 5.438 m
hc/h = 0.605
hc = 8.771 m
For this case, h/L = 0.58, 43% of Liquid mass participates in convective mode
Sum of total convective and impulsive mass is about -4%more than total liquid mass.
Time period:

where,
L&T Construction
WATER & EFFLUENT TREATMENT IC
Hence,
h= (2738707/2x5.438)+(425746x14.5/2) = 5.87 m
(2738707/2)+425746
12.15 x 14.5
q= = 100.00 kN/m2
For simplified approach, the UDL is converted into a concentrated load acting at h:
100 x 16 = 1600 kN
1600
5.87
where,
= 27386200 kN/m2
Ref IS 1893 Horizontal Seismic Coefficient (Ah)i = 0.1 x 1.5 x 2.29 / (2 x 5) = 0.0344

cl. 4.4 of pg. 7
1.00 / T T≥ 0.400
Hence Sa / g = 0.2500
(Sa/g)c = 0.438
Hydrodynamic Pressure:
where,
y - Vertical distance of a point on tank wall from the bottom of tank wall
where,
where,
where,
where,
t = wall thickness.
Pressure on tank wall due to its inertia = 0.0344 x (0.875) x 25 0.76 kN/m2
where,
y = vertical distance of point under consideration from bottom of tank wall, and
1.00 / T T≥ 0.400
Hence Sa / g = 2.50
Pressure at, y = 0.00 m. i.e. at the base of the wall 3.56 kN/m2
Hydrodynamic pressure acting on walls and base slab are less than considered for Hydrotest/Working
condition. Hence water pressure during working condition is only considered for Earthquake load cases
for design of sumpwall.
