We use present simple to talk about things we often do.

We use expressions like: often, everyday, sometimes, never, usually, always, every month,
once a year, twice a week, hardly ever...
Affirmative: pronoun + verb. Examples: I eat; They swim.
 Remember! He/She/It + verb + s.* Examples: She sleeps. He reads.
Negative: pronoun + don’t + verb. Examples: We don’t watch TV. You don’t like animals.
 Remember! He/She/It + doesn’t + verb. Examples: He doesn’t wear glasses.
Questions: Do + pronoun + verb?. Examples: Do you like football?
 Remember! He/She/It + does + verb? Examples: Does she hate sport?
* To add the s (He/She/It):
a) If the verb finishes in o, sh, ch, x and ss, we add –es. Examples: to finish = finishes.
b) If the verb finishes in vowel + y, we add –s. Examples: to play = plays.
c) If the verb in consonant + y, we add –ies. Examples: to study = studies.
Write the verbs in the correct form:
She usually __________________ (EAT) pasta for lunch.
Susan _____________________ (NOT WRITE) letters to her grandmother.
My dad never __________________ (DRIVE) me home from school.
I always ____________________ (READ) the newspaper in the morning.

We use expressions like: now, right now, at the moment…
Affirmative: pronoun + verb TO BE + verb + -ing. Examples: I am reading. Ana and Jess
are sleeping. Thomas is calling Emma.
 Remember! The verb TO BE: I am, you are, he/she/it is, we are, you are, they
are.
Negative: pronoun + verb TO BE + not + verb + -ing. Examples: She’s not going home
right now. I’m not copying!
Questions: verb TO BE + pronoun + verb + -ing. Examples: Are you having a shower? Is
Jonah eating sausages?
Complete the sentences with the present continuous:
