Present Simple vs. Present Continuous
We use expressions like: often, everyday, sometimes, never, usually, always, every month,
once a year, twice a week, hardly ever...
Affirmative: pronoun + verb. Examples: I eat; They swim.
Remember! He/She/It + verb + s.* Examples: She sleeps. He reads.
Negative: pronoun + don’t + verb. Examples: We don’t watch TV. You don’t like animals.
Remember! He/She/It + doesn’t + verb. Examples: He doesn’t wear glasses.
Questions: Do + pronoun + verb?. Examples: Do you like football?
Remember! He/She/It + does + verb? Examples: Does she hate sport?
* To add the s (He/She/It):
a) If the verb finishes in o, sh, ch, x and ss, we add –es. Examples: to finish = finishes.
b) If the verb finishes in vowel + y, we add –s. Examples: to play = plays.
c) If the verb in consonant + y, we add –ies. Examples: to study = studies.
