TEAMS' UNIFORMS GUIDELINES FOR GAMES OF THE XXXII OLYMPIAD TOKYO 2020
1. CONCEPT
The FIVB has established teams’ uniforms standards based on the recommendations of FIVB medical advisors,
athletes, officials and in accordance with the Rule 50 (and its By-Laws) of the Olympic Charter, that will be in
force during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Each NOC/NF is responsible for providing their National Volleyball Team with a Team Equipment conforming
to the FIVB Event Regulations and the guideline set herein.
- Athlete Equipment;
- Team Official Equipment;
- Team Equipment Accessories.
No commercial trademark or design other than that of the Identification of the Manufacturer, Product Technology
Identification and authorized prints as per Rule 50 (Guidelines Regarding Authorised Identifications Games of
the XXXII Olympiad Tokyo 2020) may appear on any accessories and/or clothing.
Each team shall have 3 sets of uniforms, each one of a different colour. One of them must have a JERSEY
which is 75% white, and the two (2) other sets must be of different colours.
All Team Equipment shall abide by an FIVB approval process prior to the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020
(reference to Article 6).
3. ATHLETE EQUIPMENT
The Athlete Equipment for the Olympic Volleyball tournament consists of:
Uniform jersey, uniform shorts, uniform socks and training suit must be the same for the whole team. The Libero
must have two (2) sets of each uniform.
Athlete Equipment Accessories consist of knee-guards, ankle supports and elbow protections. Each of this
equipment (except jersey and shorts) can be from different manufacturers, bear different colours and designs.
Jersey (Annex A)
The uniform JERSEY should have an athletic look, respecting the space for the required placements of the
Identification of the Manufacturer, Product Technology Identification, National Identifications, athlete's number
and athlete`s name. All information featured on an athlete’s JERSEY must be clearly visible once the JERSEY
is tucked into the SHORTS.
o Sleeves: Athletic type sleeveless or short sleeves allowed. Long sleeves below elbow length are not
allowed.
o Collar: Collar required.
o Body fit: Jerseys must not be loose or baggy and should follow the bodyline.
Shorts (Annex A)
The uniform SHORTS should have an athletic look for both men and women. All athletes of the same team
must wear the same colour and style, except for the Libero(s) who must wear SHORTS of a contrasting colour
to the rest of the team.

One Identification of the Manufacturer per clothing item will be permitted. All locations mentioned in these
Guidelines are from the perspective of the person wearing the uniform as demonstrated in the attached Annex.
Identification of the Manufacturer can be placed on the front right-hand upper side of the JERSEY and on the
front left bottom side of the SHORTS. Logo must not exceed 30 cm² each. It can be printed, embroidered or
woven.
One additional Product Technology Identification will be permitted per clothing item and must not exceed 10
cm². The Product Technology Identification means the technical identification, which shall not include any
Identification of the Manufacturer, or any part thereof, used on Clothing to identify any fabric technology.
b) Athlete's Number
The athletes' number must be placed on the front and on the back of the JERSEY as per the Annex A and must
be the same as registered on O-2 Form.
For the Team Captain, a 2 cm (height) x minimum 8 cm (width) bar must be and centered under the athlete’s
number on the front of the JERSEY printed in the same colour and texture.
The athlete’s number must also be placed on the front of the athlete’s SHORTS with the maximum size of:
The athlete’s number can be printed, embroidered or woven, in a colour contrasting well with the colour of the
JERSEY (i.e. light on a dark shirt, dark on a light shirt).
c) National Identifications (NOC Emblem, 3-Letter NOC Code, National / Territory Flag)
National Identification (NOC Emblem / national flag and code) must be printed, embroidered or woven on the
front upper left side of the JERSEY as per the Annex A on a surface of minimum 36 cm² and maximum 40 cm².
The FIVB recommends 3-letter country code for NOC code. In case a team wishes to use full country/territory
name, it must submit a design to the FIVB by 2 March 2021: FIVB will examine the design and approve it only
if the full country / territory name is appropriately shown in the above size.
The national / territory flag must appear on the back upper middle of the JERSEY 1.5 cm below the seam with
a minimum size of 33 cm2 and maximum 39 cm2, and 1.5 cm above the athlete’s name (Annex A).
d) Athlete's Name
The athlete's name (as registered on O-2 Form, i.e. last name or nickname, if authorized by the FIVB) shall be
placed on the back of the JERSEY between the national / territory flag and the number, as per the enclosed
diagram (Annex A) in a colour contrasting with that of the uniform, and in accordance with the specifications
below:

Each NOC/ NF is responsible to provide TRAINING SUITS to their athletes, same colour and style for the entire
team.
During the victory ceremony, all members of the team delegation must wear the official NOC's TRAINING SUIT.
This uniform shall conform with the By-Laws to Rule 50 of the Olympic Charter. No hats and/or sunglasses can
be worn during the victory ceremony.
On the Field of Play (FoP) during the competition days, all members of the team delegation may choose to wear
the official NOC’s TRAINING SUIT or the TRAINING SUIT corresponding to the FIVB Event Regulations and
Annex B of current Guidelines so long as the layout of such training suits are approved by the FIVB and comply
with guidelines for Rule 50 produced by the IOC. However, in the event that there is a conflict between the IOC
Rule 50 – General Guidelines and the FIVB Event Regulations, the IOC Rule 50 - General Guidelines shall
prevail.
Any elements placed on the TRAINING SUIT should not overlap each other or be placed directly adjacent to
each other and should maintain certain distance as per available space. Additionally, the TRAINING SUIT
cannot contain any third-party corporate design and/or colour scheme.
One Identification of the Manufacturer per clothing item will be permitted. It can be placed on the front right-
hand side of the JACKET and on the front left side of the PANTS. Logo must fit within must not exceed 30 cm²
each. It can be printed, embroidered or woven.
One additional Product Technology Identification will be permitted per clothing item and must not exceed 10
cm².
b) NOC Emblem, 3-Letter NOC Code, National / Territory Flag, Country Name
The NOC Emblem or national / territory flag and the 3-letter NOC code must be printed, embroidered or woven
on the front upper left side of the JACKET as per the Annex B, on a total surface of minimum 36 cm² and
maximum 40 cm². In case, the NOC requests the full country name to appear instead of the 3-letter NOC code,
the official request must be made to FIVB for approval before 2 March 2021.
The country name to be displayed on the back of the JACKET (centered in the middle) based on the size of the
uniform and in accordance with the specifications below:

The athlete’s name (as registered on O-2 Form, i.e. last name or nickname) may also be displayed on the back
of the JACKET above the country name, please see the above point (3 (d)) for letter size specifications.

Each NOC/ NF is responsible to provide to their team delegation with Team Official Equipment, same colour
and style for all the team officials.
The Team Official Equipment for the Olympic Volleyball tournament consists of:
The Team Officials on the bench must conform to either of the following dress code options:
I. all to wear their official NOC’s TRAINING SUIT and polo shirt of the same colour and style, or
II. all to wear their official TRAINING SUIT and polo shirt of the same colour and style as per the
FIVB Event Regulations and Annex B of current Guidelines.
However, in the event that there is a conflict between the IOC Rule 50 – General Guidelines
and the FIVB Event Regulations, the IOC Rule 50 - General Guidelines shall prevail.
The JACKET/POLO shall comply with above principles related to TRAINING SUITS for athletes.
Any accessories used by athletes during the competition (e.g. KNEE PROTECTORS/ KNEE PADS, ELBOW
PROTECTORS / ELBOW PADS, TOWELS, HEAD BANDS, WRIST BANDS, EYEWEAR, etc.) cannot display
any advertising except for the identifications defined herein.
One (1) Identification of the Manufacturer per item will be permitted on accessories (except TOWELS,
SQUEEZE BOTTLES and MEDICAL TAPE) to a maximum size of 6 cm2. The BOTTLE cannot be shaped /
designed in a look that is distinctive to a particular manufacturer or brand.
The size of the logo for the BAG is limited up to 10% of the total surface area of the item with the maximum size
of 60 cm².
UNDERGARMENTS must not be visible under the uniform (JERSEY and SHORTS) and in any event must be
of the same color with the uniform.
COMPRESSION PADS are approved but are required to be of the same color and design as the uniform for all
athletes. No padding is allowed in the FOREARM COMPRESSION PADS, as it provides advantages to the
athletes’ performances. Neutral colors, black or white are acceptable.
SOCKS must be uniform in colour and the same length of socks for the entire team and may carry the
Identification of the Manufacturer (maximum size of 6 cm2).
SHOES and trademarks may differ in design and may carry the Identification of the Manufacturer as
generally used on products sold through the retail trade during the period of 6 months or more prior to the
Tokyo Olympic Games 2020.
o Temporary tattoos
o Permanent tattoos with manufacturers’ identifications and/or other identifying features unauthorised
commercial, political, religious or racial propaganda.
8. APPROVAL PROCEDURE
By 2 March 2021, NOCs / NFs, qualified to the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020, shall submit to the FIVB Volleyball
Department ([email protected] ) for approval:
1. Graphic layout of the three (3) sets of Captain’s playing uniform (each one of a different colour) featuring
all elements and measurements;
2. Graphic layout of the athlete training suit featuring all elements and measurements;
3. Graphic layout of the Team Official Uniform featuring all elements and measurements;

4. Physical samples of the Captain’s playing uniform (three (3) sets) with all elements (printed /
embroidered) addressed to:
During the Preliminary Inquiry, each participating team must present all team clothing, equipment and
accessories to the FIVB Control Committee for the final check.
After the Preliminary Inquiry, once team clothing, equipment and accessories have been checked and
authorized by the FIVB Control Committee, and unless specifically authorized in writing by the FIVB, NOCs /
NFs are not allowed to make any modification.
Team clothing, equipment and accessories will be also checked by Tokyo 2020 Competition Management and
the FIVB Control Committee at the warm-up courts and eventually before the teams enter the field of play.
Athletes and Team Officials must wear the uniform approved by the FIVB and checked by the Control
Committee at the Preliminary Inquiry and be properly dressed during matches, on the field of play, during warm-
ups and during post-match interviews in the mixed zone. Athletes and Team Officials are requested to wear
clean uniforms in the media / press area and during the awarding ceremony.
Any identification of the Manufacturer (including, in particular, any usage of Exclusive Identifiers) infringing upon
the IOC shall be removed or covered in accordance with the instructions given by representatives of the IOC,
Tokyo 2020, FIVB to the athlete/ Team Official concerned.
11. OTHERS
Notwithstanding the above, these Guidelines are to be used subject to the understanding that:
(1) In case of the event that a conflict exists between these Guidelines and Rule 50 of the Olympic Charter,
the latter shall prevail;
(2) The IOC Executive Board shall be the sole authority to finally determine whether the use of a name,
designation, trademark, logo or any other distinctive sign complies with the Olympic Charter and these
Guidelines; and
(3) The IOC and FIVB reserves the right to further interpret and/or supplement these Guidelines in order
to help ensure that the spirit and purposes of Rule 50 are respected.
