Do not open this booklet until you are told to do so. While you are waiting, read and observe the
following instructions. Write your name and index number in the spaces provided above.

This booklet consists of two papers. Answer Paper 2 which comes first, in your answer booklet and
Paper 1 on your Objective Test answer sheet. Paper 2 will last 1 hour after which the answer booklet
will be collected Do not start Paper l until you are told to do so. Paper l will last 1 hour.

The use of calculators is not allowed.

Answer four questions only.
All questions carry equal marks.
All working must be clearly shown. Marks will not be awarded for correct answers without
corresponding working.
1. (a) In a test, 20 pupils passed in Science or Mathematics. If 5 passed both subjects and 3
more passed Mathematics than Science, find the number of pupils who passed in each
subject. [7 marks]

(b) Expand and simplify 2𝑎 𝑏 𝑎 2𝑏 𝑏 𝑎 [4 marks]

(c) Simplify [4 marks]

2. (a) A box has length 4 cm, width 3.5 cm, and height 5 cm. Find:
(i) The volume of the box
(ii) The total surface area of the box [8 marks]

(b) Find the value of 𝑚 in the diagram below

[4 marks]

(c) The external angles of a polygon are 30° , 40° , 120° , 140° , and 𝑦°. Find the value of 𝑦. [3 marks]

3. (a) An amount of GH¢500.00 was shared between Jane and Lawrence.


If Jane had of the amount,
(i) how much did Lawrence receive?
(ii) what percentage of Jane’s share did Lawrence receive? [6 marks]

(b) The VAT and NHIL inclusive marked price of a refrigerator is GH₵230.00. If the VAT
and the NHIL are charged at rates of 12.5% and 2.5% respectively, find the basic cost of
the refrigerator. [5 marks]

(c) Duke invested $100 at 2.5% per annum simple interest. How long will it take this
amount to yield an interest of $15 [4 marks]

4. (a) Using a ruler and a pair of compasses only,


(i) construct rectangle ABCD with length |AB| 7 cm, and width |BC| 5cm.
(ii) Extend line CB to the point P such that |CB| |BP|
(iii) Join A to P [8 marks]

(b) (i) Measure ∠APB


(ii) Measure |AP| and find the perimeter of the quadrilateral APCD ? [4 marks]

(c) Simplify 27 9 3 1 leaving your answer in form 3n [3 marks]

(b) (i) Plot on the same graph sheet the points A 2, 1 , B 3, 4 , C 4, 1 and
D 5, 4 . Join the points to form a quadrilateral ABCD.
(ii) Draw and indicate the co-ordinates of enlargement A1B1C1D1 of ABCD with scale
factor 2 from the origin O(0, 0), such that A→A1, B→B1, C→C1 and D→D1. [8 marks]
