1. Banning Cars in the City

 Thesis

Cars should be banned in the city. As we all know, cars create pollution,
and cause a lot of road deaths and other accidents.

 Argumentation

Firstly, cars, as we all know, contribute to most of the pollution in the

world. Cars emit a deadly gas that causes illnesses such as bronchitis,
lung cancer, and 'triggers' off asthma. Some of these illnesses are so bad
that people can die from them.

Secondly, the city is very busy. Pedestrians wander everywhere and

cars commonly hit pedestrians in the city, which causes them to die. Cars
today are our roads biggest killers.

Thirdly, cars are very noisy. If you live in the city, you may find it
hard to sleep at night, or concentrate on your homework, and especially
talk to someone.

 Conclusion

In conclusion, cars should be banned from the city for the reasons listed.

2. Learning from Television

 Thesis

Traditionally, educators have perceived television as not particularly

beneficial to literacy development. Concerns were fueled by findings
suggesting that with the introduction of television people spend less time
reading books and reading scores decline. As our society is striving to
make adjustments to the decline in literacy skills, new ways of learning
and teaching are being explored, educators are becoming interested in
exploring the educational potential of television. Therefore, the interest
in television as an educational medium has increased for several reasons.

 Argumentation

First, existing educational television programs that were developed to

enhance the literacy development of both children and adults have been
quite successful in achieving their intended outcomes. This has been
reported in several researches dealing with such things such as television
supported distance learning programs from the Open University in Great
Britain.

Second, because television is a very accessible medium, it has the

potential to reach learners that have not been able to participate in
traditional adult literacy programs. Television is accessible both in terms
of its technology and in terms of its content. By 1985, 99% of all US
households had a least one television set. Moreover, viewers are
intimately familiar with the content of television and tend to associate it
with pleasurable experience because of its power to entertain.

Finally, the development of new visual technologies makes it possible

to provide users with more control and interactivity and thus to adapt
televised instruction to the needs of a variety of learners and learning
styles.

 Reiteration

To conclude, many teachers in UK are recently becoming aware to

benefit the potential of television programs to support the teaching
processes.

3. Learning English through Musi

 Thesis

Learning English through music and songs can be very enjoyable.

You can mix pleasure with learning when you listen to a song and exploit
the song as a means to your English progress. Some underlying reason
can be drawn to support the idea why we use songs in language learning.

 Argumentation

Firstly, "the song stuck in my head" Phenomenon (the echoing in our

minds of the last song we heard after leaving a restaurant, shopping malls,
etc) can be both enjoyable and sometimes unnerving. This phenomenon
also seems to reinforce the idea that songs work on our short-and-long
term memory.

Secondly, songs in general also use simple conversational language,

with a lot of repetition, which is just what many learners look for sample
text. The fact that they are effective makes them many times more
motivating than other text. Although usually simple, some songs can be
quite complex syntactically, lexically and poetically, and can be analyzed
in the same way as any other literary sample.

Furthermore, song can be appropriated by listener for their own

purpose. Most pop songs and probably many other types don't have
precise people, place or time reference In addition, songs are relaxing.
They provide variety and fun, and encourage harmony within oneself and
within one group. Little wonder they are important tools in sustaining
culture, religion, patriotism and yeas, even revolution.

 Conclusion
Last but not least, there are many learning activities we can do with songs
such as studying grammar, practicing selective listening comprehension,
translating songs, learning vocabulary, spelling and culture.

4. The Importance of Mobile Phones in Daily Lives

 Thesis

I strongly believe that mobile phones are necessary. My reasons for

this belief are that these phones are convenient for business people who
travel a lot, and they are handy for emergencies.

 Argumentation

To begin with, mobile phones are necessary in the case of

emergencies. For instance, if you fall down a set of stairs in a building
and are badly injured and can't reach a pay phone, it is handy to have one
to use. Or, if your car breaks down in the middle of the night in a strange
neighbourhood, it would be dangerous to leave it in search of a public
phone booth.

My other main reason is that mobile phones are convenient for

business people. For example, if you are out of the state or even overseas
and you have to contact a client to do some important work, it is useful
to have one to use. By using a mobile phone, important information can
be received. People can't stay in an office all day waiting for their phone
to ring. Some people have to go and do jobs or they will go out of
business. You can even send faxes or messages and use the internet with
your mobile.

 Conclusion

In conclusion, I believe that mobile phones have now become a

necessary part of every day life. Instant communication will ensure that
information can be passed on with a simple press of a button. Whether
this is to do with business or personal information or emergencies, it goes
to show that they are necessary in the new millennium.

5. Laptop as Students' Friend

 Thesis

Conventionally, students need book, pen, eraser, drawing book, ruler

and such other stuff. Additionally, in this multimedia era, students need
more to reach their progressive development. Students need mobile
keyboards to record every presented subject easily. Of course it will need
more cost but it will deserve for its function.

 Argumentation
First, modern schools tend to apply fast transferring knowledge
because the school needs to catch the target of curriculum. Every subject
will tend to be given in demonstrative method. Consequently students
need extra media cover the subject. Since there is a laptop on every
student's desk, this method will help student to get better understanding.

Secondly, finding an appropriate laptop is not difficult as it was.

Recently there is an online shop which provides comprehensive
information. The best is that the shop has service of online shopping. The
students just need to brows that online shop, decide which computer or
laptop they need, and then complete the transaction. After that the laptop
will be delivered to the students' houses. That is really easy and save time
and money.

 Conclusion

From all of that, having mobile computer is absolutely useful for

students who want to catch the best result for their study. Buying laptop
online is advisable because it will cut the price. This online way is
recommended since online shop also provides several laptop types.
Students just need to decide which type they really need.

1. Holiday in Malino

I spent my last holiday in Malino, South Sulawesi with my friends.

On the first day, I arrived at Villa at 12.00 after a 4 hour trip with a bus.
After I arrived, I decided to take a shower and rest for a while. Then, I
followed a trip with our guide to explore a Malino. On the next morning,
we go to Malino Highlands. We had fun, we also ate good food. On the
last day, I went shopping for some souvenirs. After that, I returned to
Makassar. We arrived in Makassar at 19.00. I had a wonderful experience
in Malino. It was the best trip of my life.

2. My Grandpa's Hometown

Three weeks ago, my family and I were in my grandpa's hometown.

It is our annual agenda every holiday at the end of Semester.
Unfortunately, it was the rainy season there.

It rained almost every day there. We didn't have enough time to visit
some tourist places there because of the rain. We had not enough sunlight
even to dry up our laundry. As a result, we just stayed at home almost all
day long.

Seeing the condition, we decided to make an interesting activity

indoors to spend the holiday together. The activity we chose that day was
making funny videos directed by me. Finishing the videos, we edited
them and uploaded them to youtube.

By doing this, we could kill our boredom of staying at home because

of the rain and make a creative activity instead.

3. Cooking Fried Rice

Two months ago, a friend of mine gave me a box of fried rice that she
made by herself. I was so amazed by how tasty her fried rice was. Itu
encouraged me to learn how ti make delicious fried rice. So, one week
later I made one.

After school, I purposefully did not take a nap. Instead, I went to the
kitchen and prepared all the ingredients needed. However, at that time I
did not know how to make it or where to start. So, I tried to find a recipe
on Youtube. The, I found a video of a simple fried rice recipe that had
been watched by over 1 million viewers.

After watching the video once, I followed it according to the steps

shown in the video. It took me approximately 10 minutes of preparation
and 30 minutes cooking. When I finished cooking, I served the fried rice
on a large plate. Afterwards, I served it for the family.

My mother and father said that my fried rice was tasty. But, my
brother said that it was too spicy for him. Turns out, cooking was an
exciting activity. After receiving compliments from my mother and
father, I wanted make delicious food more and more.

4. Adventure

Once upon a time, in a magical forest nestled deep within the

mountains, I embarked on an extraordinary adventure. It all started when
I stumbled upon a hidden, overgrown trail that led me to a secret clearing
where a shimmering portal awaited.

Without hesitation, I stepped through the portal and found myself in

a world unlike any other. The sky was painted in shades of lavender and
gold, and the trees had leaves that twinkled like stars. As I explored this
enchanting land, I encountered talking animals, each with its own unique
wisdom to share. The trees whispered secrets, and the river sang
melodious songs.

In this fantastical realm, I made friends with a mischievous yet kind-

hearted fairy who guided me on a quest to find a legendary crystal that
held the power to heal the land. We faced challenges, including solving
riddles posed by ancient spirits and outsmarting a cunning forest creature
who guarded the crystal.

After many thrilling adventures, we finally located the crystal, which

radiated with a warm, healing light. With the crystal in hand, we returned
to the magical clearing and used its power to restore balance to the forest,
bringing back vibrant life to every corner of this wondrous world.

As I bid farewell to my new friends and stepped back through the

portal, I couldn't help but smile, knowing that the memories of this
fantastical adventure would stay with me forever. Back in the real world,
I carried the magic of that imaginative journey in my heart, forever
grateful for the enchanting experience.

5. A Trip to the National Zoo and Aquarium

Yesterday, my family and I went to the National Zoo and Aquarium

to visit the new Snow Cubs and the other animals. In the morning, when
we got to the Zoo and Aquarium there was a great big line, so we had to
wait awhile to get in. After we entered the zoo, we went straight to the
enclosure for the Snow Cubs. My brother and I were so excited to see
them. They were so cute and playful. At lunchtime Dad decided to cook
a bbq. He cooked sausages so we could have sausage sandwiches.

Mum forgot the tomato sauce so we had to eat them plain. In the
afternoon, we visited the aquarium. My brother was excited to see the
sharks and the tropical fish. At the end of the day when we left we were
going to go and get ice cream but we decided we were too tired so we
drove straight home.
