Assigment Questions
1.. The annual demand for a product is 500 units. The cost of storage per unit per year is 10% of the unit
cost. The ordering cost is Rs. 180 for each order. The unit cost depends upon the amount ordered. The
range of amount ordered and the unit cost price are as follows:
0 Q 500 Rs. 25
Qustion 2
Minimize C = x1 + 2x2
Subject to:
50x1 + 250x2 ≥ 500
240x1 + 80x2 ≥ 960
XI +x2 ≥6
X1, x2 ≥0
Problem 3
Three plants (A, B and C) of a company produce an item that is shipped to four warehouses (D, E, F and
G). An item, not shipped to any warehouse, has to be destroyed at a cost to the company. Table below
shows the plant availabilities, the warehouse demands, and the unit transpiration costs for a given plant to
a given warehouse. Find the optimal cost.
Problem 4
A machine operator has to perform two operations, turning and threading on 6 different jobs. The
time required to perform these operations (in minutes) for each job is known. Determine the order in
which the jobs should be processed in order to minimize the total time required to complete all the
jobs. Also find the total processing time and idle times for turning and threading operations
Problem 5
The following table gives the activities in a construction project and the time duration of each activity:
Activity Preceding activity Normal Time (Days)
A – 16
B – 20
C A 8
D A 10
E B, C 6
F D, E 12
i)Draw the activity network of the project.
(ii) Find critical path.
(iii) Find the total float and free-float for activity B and C
Problem 6
A small project is composed of seven activities, whose time estimates are listed below. Activities are
identified by their beginning (i) and (j) node number.
Activity Estimated durations (in days)
(i-j) Optimistic Most Likely Pessimistic
1-2 2 2 1
1-3 2 8 14
1-4 4 4 16
2-5 2 2 2
3-5 4 10 28
4-6 4 10 16
5-6 6 12 30
(a) Draw the project network.
(b) Find the expected duration and variance for each activity. What is the expected project length.
(c) What is the probability that project will be completed at least 8 days earlier than expected?
(d) If the project due date is 38 days, what is the probability of not meeting the due date?
