CHAPTER 3

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the research methodology of the study. In conducting the

study which includes the research design, the respondents of the study, the research

instrument, the data-gathering and procedure, and the statistial tools used to analyze

the gathered data.

Research Design

Descriptive research involves the use of questionnaires, interviews and polls to

collect data needed in the study. Also, it aims to describe a certain topic, issue, a

variable or phenomenon.

Descriptive research also aims to accurately and systematically describe a

population, situation or phenomenon. It can answer what, where, when and how

questions, but not why questions. we propose a descriptive research design. Our

objective is to comprehensively explore how social media usage influences the online

etiquette of G-10 students. To achieve this, we will employ surveys and observation

methods. The survey will consist of structured questions assessing social media

habits, online behaviors, and perceptions of netiquette. A diverse sample of G-10

students from various schools will be randomly selected to ensure representative

findings. Anonymity will be prioritized during data collection to encourage honest

responses. Additionally, we will conduct observations of a subset of participants

engaging in social media interactions to supplement quantitative data with qualitative

insights. Ethical considerations, such as informed consent and confidentiality, will be

strictly adhered to throughout the research process. The analysis will involve both

statistical examination of survey data and qualitative interpretation of observational

findings. This comprehensive approach aims to provide a nuanced understanding of

the relationship between social media use and netiquette among G-10 students.

Subject of the Stuudy

The subject of this study we're the seven sections of the G-10 students of

Aureliana National Highschool, The 10-Aquamarine, 10-Topaz, 10-Garnet, 10-

Jasper, 10-Jade, all section handled by the researcher. All students enrolled in Grade

10 we're the researcher's subjects. Upon the enrollment, the researcher selected the

subjests using the rank method wherein average taken from their previous report

card we're ranked from highest to lowest. Then researcher used the the sloven

formula to get the five percent total of the subjects per sections. And then start to

conduct the survey using the questionairs given, The students in the seven sections

chosen to compose the seven groups had almost the same characteristics in terms

of their academic performance. The distribution of the study was equal.

Research Instrument

To gather the data on the student's behavior before, during and after using the

social media using the survey conducted, the researcher used a researcher-made

test. The research instrument was a 15 item questionair to test wether they observe

their etiquette whenever using any social media platfors.

This strategic framework aims to guide the experimental study, placing

paramount importance on factors such as participant engagement, data collection

precision, and adherence to the designated scheme throughout the study's duration.

Table of Specification (TOS) was made to delve into the intricacies of student

behavior in the realm of social media, the researcher devised a tailored research

instrument—an astutely crafted 15-item questionnaire. This instrument served as the

linchpin for capturing insights into students' conduct before, during, and after
engaging with various social media platforms. The questions, meticulously curated,

sought to discern the nuances of their online etiquette, shedding light on the

subtleties often overlooked in the digital landscape.

Furthermore, recognizing the need for a structured approach, the researcher

implemented a Table of Specification (TOS). This indispensable tool delineates the

proportion of questions allocated to specific content areas or skills, ensuring a

balanced and thorough exploration of the research objectives. The TOS serves as a

blueprint, guiding the researcher in crafting assessments that effectively capture the

multifaceted aspects of student behavior in the context of social media usage.

In essence, this comprehensive approach, marked by a bespoke research instrument

and a meticulous Table of Specification, positions the study to unravel the intricate

tapestry of student behavior in the dynamic landscape of social media, offering

valuable insights for both academia and practical application.

Validity of the Instrument

To establish the validity of the instrument, the initial draft of the test was

assessed and was reviewed by the thesis adviser and presented for face and content

validation and item inspection to a panel of experts in english, test and measurement,

and statistics. The panel of experts inspected each item based on appropriateness or

suitability, relevance, clarity of language used, correctness of sentences, and others.

The corrections, recommendations, and suggestions for the refinement of the

instrument were incorporated in the final draft of the instrument.

Reliability of the Instrument

Reliability refers to the consistency of the responses or scores obtained by an

individual in a test to whom the Instrument is administered and the consistency of

scores given to the items included in the questionnaire. The reliability of the

Instrument was determined through the use of item analysis.

The 15-item test, upon the approval of the thesis adviser and the thesis

committee, was administered and pilat tested to the selected Grade 10 students of

Aureliana National Highschool, Aureliana, Patnongon, Antique for item analysis.

Following the meticulous administration and pilot testing among Grade 10 students at

Aureliana National High School, the item analysis provided crucial insights into the

instrument's reliability and effectiveness. The results, once analyzed and validated,

contribute significantly to the overall robustness of the research methodology,

ensuring a comprehensive and sound approach in assessing the selected variables

within the academic setting.

Data Gathering Procedure

In this research, the data gathering procedure centers around a meticulously

designed research instrument—a 15-item questionnaire strategically crafted to

assess G-10 students' behavior before, during, and after using various social media

platforms. The questions delve into the nuances of online etiquette, aiming to capture

subtleties often overlooked in the digital landscape. To ensure precision and

engagement, a Table of Specification (TOS) was implemented, guiding the allocation

of questions to specific content areas or skills. This structured approach guarantees

a balanced and thorough exploration of the research objectives. Participants will be

administered the survey, emphasizing the importance of honest responses and

confidentiality. The TOS acts as a blueprint, ensuring the research instrument

effectively captures the multifaceted aspects of student behavior in the dynamic

realm of social media. This comprehensive approach positions the study to unravel
the intricate tapestry of student conduct, offering valuable insights for both academia

and practical application in understanding the influence of social media on netiquette

among G-10 students.

The data gathered were manualy processed, tabulated, analyze, and

interpreted by the researchers.

Data Analysis

The research instrument was reproduced according to the number of the

respondents of the study.

After the conduct of the experiment, the researcher administered the test

instrument: the data were gathered, organized, computed, and tabulated.

Computations, analyses and interpretations were done manually.

Statistical Tools

The data gathered for this study we're subjected to appropriate excel or google

sheets can be handy for data entry, basic analysis, and creating charts. Additionally,

you can use simple calculators for measures like mean, median, and standard

deviation.

Frequency Count. Frequency count was used to determine the distribution of the

subjects using the survey.

Mean. Mean was used to describe the student's answers in the given questionnaire
