Government approved laboratories confirming to ASTM, ANSI, IS etc. standards.
EMEI/ESSLOK Double Ferrule Compression Tube Fittings provide leak proof torque free
seals at all tubing connections. They eliminate hazardous leaks in instrumentation,
process, pneumatic, hydraulic and other applicable tubing systems, which could otherwise
turn out to be costly to the installation.
The basic is a four-piece fitting consisting of the Nut, Back Ferrule, Front Ferrule and Body. When
installed, it becomes a four-piece connection with the addition of the tubing providing a solid leak
free joint. The two ferrules grasp tightly around the tube with no damage to the tube wall.
Exhaustive tests have proven that the tubing will yield before a EMEI/ESSLOK
Compression Tube Fittings joint start leaking.
EMEI/ESSLOK Compression Tube Fittings have the following features:
DESIGN FEATURES:
• Fittings are self-supporting.
• It works on thick and thin wall tubing.
• It resists vibration.
• Have all components made of the same material and hence possess thermal
compatibility and corrosion resistance.
• Resistant to temperature cycling.
• It compensates for the variables encountered in the tube material, dimensions
and metallurgy.
ASSEMBLY:
• It uses geometry rather than torque for uniformity of makeup.
• It requires only one and quarter turn after snug tight to complete the joint.
• Does not require disassembly and inspection of ferrule swaging at every make-up.
• Does not require any special tools for assembly.
SERVICE:
EMEI/ESSLOK Compression Tube Fittings are available in wide range of materials,
sizes, connections and configurations.
STEP 1:
Insert the tubing into the EMEI/ESSLOK TUBE FITTINGS. Make sure that the tubing rests
firmly on the shoulders of the fitting and that the nut is snug tight, in a position that the
tube does not rotate by hand.
STEP 2:
Before tightening the EMEI/ESSLOK nut, scribe the nut at the 6.00 o’clock position.
STEP 3:
Now while holding the fitting steady with a backup wrench, tighten the nut with one and
quarter turn.
Watch the scribe mark, make one complete revolution and continue to the 9.00 o’clock position.
HIGH PRESSURE APPLICATION, HIGH SAFETY FACTOR SYSTEMS. Due to the variation of
tubing diameters, a common starting point is desirable. Therefore, use a wrench to snug up the nut
until the tubing will not turn (by hand) in the fitting. Now tighten the nut one and quarter turns and
the fitting is ready to hold pressure well above the working pressure of the tubing.
RE-TIGHTENING INSTRUCTIONS:
Connections can be disconnected and re-tightened many, many times and same reliable,
leak-proof seal obtained every tie the reconnection is made.
SELECTION:
Proper selection, handling, installation of tubing when combined with the proportion of
Double Ferrule Compression Tube Fittings are essential reliable tubing system. Although,

TUBING HARDNESS:
Tubing must be always softer than the fitting material by using the suggested hardness of
the tubes as explained in tubing specification you will ensure joints which work perfectly.
The most misunderstanding about tubing hardness are in the area of stainless steel tubing
EMEI/ESSLOK Double Ferrule Compression Tube Fittings are made from stainless steel have
been tested successfully with tubing hardness up to HRB 90, the maximum hardness allowed
under ASTM
A213 and ASTM A269. Although such tubing hardness is permissible and EMEI/ESSLOK
Double Ferrule Compression Tube Fittings perform satisfactorily on such tubing they will not
give maximum advantage and performance for tubes of hardness above HRB 80. Hence it is
suggested that when purchasing stainless steel tubes to ASTM A213/A269, you specify that
the hardness of the tube should not exceed HRB 80. Better still we have found that the best
results are obtained where the stainless steel tubing hardness is in the range HRB 70-74.
Such tubing (HRB 70-74) lowers installation costs because it is easily bent and installed.
Tubing installers should be particularly careful the full suggested one and quarter turns after snug
tight be performed to ensure the proper joints. This will give the maximum performance. This is
especially so in the case of harder tubing where higher torques is required. We again repeat that
HRB 80 maximum hardness is suggestion and not a restriction against the use of EMEI/ESSLOK
Double Ferrule Compression Tube Fittings in stainless steel to increase the performance of the
fitting.

Tubing Handling:
Scratches on tube OD are a potential source of problems in leak-tight tubing systems.
Good handling practices can greatly reduce scratches and protect tubing surface finish.
Tubing should never be dragged out of a tubing rack. Particularly in sizes 3/4” and larger,
the weight of the tubing being retrieved is sufficient to gouge the OD if there are any burrs
on the ends of the other tubes in the rack.
3
Sharp tube cutters should be maintained and tube ends should always be deburred. This
allows easier entrance of the tube into the fitting bore and helps to assure that the tubing
will go all the way through the ferrules without damaging the ferrule’s sealing edge.
Copper Tubing:
Annealed, soft, seamless copper tubing to ASTM B75 or equivalent. 5-1 safety factor
considering tensile strength of 30,000 psi at room temperature. Maximum hardness of the
tubing is not to exceed HRB 50. Preferred hardness range is HRB 40-45.

Pipe threads or stub end threads confirming to the specifications as detailed below:
The working pressure are restricted by the maximum working pressure of the tubes to be
used with fittings design as such that tubes will burst before the breakage of joints.
Accordingly, the working pressure outlined in the section entitled ‘Allowable Pressure
Rating’ for Tubing will prevail as working pressure for these fittings.
The maximum working pressure of these fittings is also restricted by pressure rating for
pipe end connection adopted.
There are no standard specifications available for the type test requirements for Double Ferrule
Compression Fittings. The attempt has been made by the British Standards Institute to formulate
BS 4368 Part IV: 1984. A similar standard has been formulated by Indian Standard Institute vide IS
10103:1982. Both these standards refer to Single Ferrule Fittings. They can however be adopted
for Double Ferrule as well. The standard covers the basic type test requirement for fittings
assembled in a standard test assembly as outlined in the standards. The tests are as follows:
PROOF TEST:
Test assemblies to be subjected to a pressure of 1.5 times the maximum working
pressure of the fittings applied at the rate of 200 Kg/Cm² per minute and maintained at
final pressure for five minutes without leak.
The above tests have been specified in Standard BS 4368 Part IV: 1984. Some customers working
with high temperatures have specified a temperature cycling test which requires test assemblies to
be subjected to suitable temperature cycles and then subjected to the Proof Pressure Test without
leakage. Other customers working with gases have specified Helium Leak test with leak rates not
exceeding 2 x 10-6 STD.CC/SEC. we undertakes all these tests at our recognized laboratories to
satisfy all customer requirements.
GAS COMPATABILITY:
Best Practice requires that you always verify the gas compatibility of any gas handling
equipment before installation and operation. The chart below helps you to verify the right
material for your gas type.
