Answer All the Questions

Q1 An ideal 3-phase step-down transformer connected A/Y delivers power

to a balanced 3-0 load of 120 kVA at 0.8 p.f. The input voltage is 11kV
(L-L) and the turns ratio of the transformer is 10 (phase to phase).
Determine the line voltages, line currents, phase voltages and pnase
(5 marks)
currents on both the primary and secondary sides.

2 The approximate equivalent circuit of a 4kVA, 200/400 V, 1-0

transformer referred to the LV side, is shown in Figure.l
(ay An OC test is conducted by applying 200V to the LV side, keeping
the HV side open. Calculate the power input, p.f, and curTent drawn
by the transformer. (2.5 marks)

(b) A SC test is conducted by passing FL current from the HV side

keeping the LV side shorted. Calculate the voltage required to be
applied to the transformer and the power input and p.f.

Q3 Figure.2 shows the cross section of a rectangular iron core with two
airgaps g1 and g2. The ferromagnetic iron can be assumed to have
infinite permeability. The coil has 500 turns.

(a) Gaps g and g2 are each equal to 0.1cm and a current of 183 (4 marks)

(b) Let gap g2 be now closed by inserting an iron piece of the (1 mark)
cortect size and infinite permeability, so that only the center
gap 910.1 cm remains. Ifa flux density of 1.25 T is needed
in gap g1,find the current that is needed in the winding.
