TOPIC: BENEFITS OF SANCTIFICATION

MEMORY VERSE: “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly, and I pray God your whole
spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1
Thessalonians 5:23
BIBLE TEXT: 1 Corinthians 6:9-11
[9] Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither
fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

[10]Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortionist, shall inherit the kingdom
of God.

[11]And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the
name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

INTRODUCTION:

To sanctify means to make holy, or to set apart for God (Genesis 2:3; Exodus 19:23). In a
doctrinal sense, sanctification is the making, truly and perfectly, holy what was before defiled
and sinful. It is a progressive work of divine grace upon the soul justified by the love of
Christ. The believer is gradually cleansed from the corruption of his nature (John 15:3), and
is at length presented “unspotted before the throne of God with exceeding joy” (Jude 24).
The Holy Spirit performs this work in connection with the providence and word of God
(John 14:26; 17:17; 2Thessalonians 2:13; 1Peter 1:2). Every Christian should seek to be holy
even as God is holy (1Peter 1:15-16). The ultimate sanctification of every believer in Christ
is a covenant mercy purchased on the cross. He, who saves us from the penalty of sin, also
saves us from its power and to prepare for Heaven every willing and yielding believer.
Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God. Leviticus 20:7

Leviticus 11:44
44 For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy;
for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that
creepeth upon the earth.

Sanctification has many benefits: it will give you special attention, love, and protection from
God. You will become free from evil and you will be the envy of people. Also, it will make
you an advocate for others like Samuel, Moses, et cetera. All you have to do is to be
absolutely holy, feed on God’s word, and represent God in all you do.

Benefits of Sanctification.

1. It secures access to all of our inheritances in Christ.

Every child of God has great things ordained for him to enjoy by reason of redemption,
but access is only by sanctification Acts 20:32; Oba. 17. Seven major things that
summarizes the inheritance of the believer; power, wisdom, riches, strength, honor, glory,
blessing Rev. 5:12.

1. It enhances answers to our prayers.

Sin blocks the believer’s prayer from being heard, therefore there will be no answer 1Jn.
5:14-15; Psa. 66:18-20; Pro. 28:13; Isa. 38:5. When we do away with sin, our prayers will
be expressly answered, this means access to whatever we desire always Jn. 16:23-24.
Psalm 66:18-19. You hid iniquity, He blocks access. Isaiah 59:1-2. So godliness facilitates
answers to prayer, we saw it also in the life of Hezekiah.

It procures divine health.

Jesus said to the man at the pool of Bethesda, “go and sin no more lest a worse thing than this
happens to you”. John 5:14. He said to the paralytic man that came down through the roof,
“thy sins be forgiven thee”. Mark 2:5. Then the Pharisees became angry and upset, who are
you to forgive sins? Church Gist. Mark 2:10-11. Sin gave way. Healing, health and
wholeness restored. Any challenge concerning anyone’s health that has its root in sin, that
challenge is cleared off today. I decree restoration over everyone’s health
2. The biggest of it, godliness secures divine presence. John 8:29. I always do the things
that please Him. Coming here didn’t please me, it pleased God, so I came to serve His
pleasure and pleasurably not can you see now? You can’t miss His presence when you
live for His pleasure. Church Gist. If God be for us, who can be against us? So we don’t
know what we are missing when we subscribe to anyhow lifestyle, we are missing out on
divine health, divine presence, missing out on answers to prayer and missing out on
access to our inheritance in Christ.

Sin is the gateway to sickness and disease. When we get rid of sin, we become entitled to
experience divine health Mk. 2:1-5,10-11; Jn.5:1-8,14.

Pathways to Sanctification.

1. Purpose to live a sanctified life.

Daniel purposed, he overcame sin and lived a godly life in the midst of corruption Dan.
1:8; 6:5, 28. To purpose mean to make a choice and become committed to it. Therefore,
we need to take a strong stand against sin and for sanctification, and make this public.

1. Watch and pray to stay sanctified.

The scriptures instruct that the believer should be watchful and pray to overcome
temptation and sin Mat. 26:41. We must watch things we watch the things we see with our
eyes, hear with our ears, and allow around us, for us to stay clean from sin. The
combination of prayer and fasting will deliver a believer from the power of any sin Mat.
17:20-21. The believer that will schedule daily prayer engagement of minimum one hour
will break free from sin to walk in sanctification.

1. Continue to engage the cleansing power of God’s word.

God’s word has the power to make a believer clean spiritually Jn. 15:3. God’s word is like
water with the power to wash and make the believer clean of every sin, and live the
sanctified life Eph. 5:26; Psa. 119:9-11. Every believer that desire to walk in sanctification
must schedule daily washing in the word.
1. Faith is a must to live a sanctified life.

Faith releases the power of God on the believer to become what he believes Jn. 1:12; Heb.
11:6. In essence, to live a sanctified life, we must have the faith that one can live totally
free of sin Matt. 5:48; Mk. 9:23.

In conclusion, there is glory in holiness, but sin brings shame and reproach Exo. 15:11;
Pro. 14:34. It is all a function of our choice as individuals, what is your choice now?
When an individual makes the choice for righteousness, it will show first by godly sorrow
for his past sin, which will lead him to repentance 2Cor. 7:10. But when an individual is
not touched about his sin, and behaves as it nothing has happened he can’t enjoy God’s
mercy Pro. 28:13. It is not enough that we repent; it must be done on time for mercy to
answer. Esau repented but it was too late and could not enjoy God’s mercy for forgiveness
of his sin, he lost his glorious destiny because of this Heb. 12:17.
