Topic:- 1) Perfect Square numbers
2) Properties of perfect Square numbers 3) Square Roots by factorization and division method Chapter Ch#3 Squares and Square Roots Periods Required 10 Objectives:- Students Will be able to Find square of a given number. understand that taking the square root of a number is the inverse operation of squaring that number, understand that the square root symbol denotes the positive square root of a number, find the square root of a perfect square, by prime factorization find the square root of a fraction where the numerator and denominator are perfect squares, Find the square root of a decimal number that can be written as a fraction with a numerator that is a perfect square and a denominator that is a multiple of 100, and give your answer as a decimal, Find the square root of non-perfect square number by division method find lengths by taking the square root of perfect squares, solve word problems by taking the square root. Learning After Studying this lesson students should learn Outcomes:- To find the square root of a number by prime factorization method and division method. Solving word problems based on square numbers
Skill developed:- Problem solving skill
Web links/resources:- Opening Teacher writes few numbers like 1, 4, 9, 16, 25 on board and ask students to identify the (Introduction) :- special kinds of numbers written on board. Students finds that 2 2 =4 2 3 =9 and so on Teacher introduces these numbers as perfect square numbers. Teaching process:- Squares and square roots Teacher relates square of a number with its root with some examples like square of 2 is four and square root of four is 2. Teacher elicits some examples from students for square root of a number. Teacher generalizes that square root of a number has two values positive and negative value i.e. square root of 4 is +2 or -2. Properties of Perfect square number. Teacher display a square numbers from 1 to 300 and instruct students to observe the last digit of a number and its square. Students identify that :- If a number ends with 1 and 9 its square ends with 1. If a number ends with 2 and 8 its square ends with 4. If a number ends with 3 and 7 its square ends with 9. If a number ends with 4 and 6 its square ends with 6. If a number ends with 5 its square ends with 5. If a number ends with 0 its square ends with 0. Finding the square root of a number by factorization method :- Teacher explain the steps to find the square root of a number by prime factorization method. Students find the square root of a perfect square number by factoring the number. Finding the square root of a number by division method: Teacher explains the steps to find the square root of a number by division method. Students finds the square root of non-perfect square by division method. Class work:- Perfect square number ends with 0, 1, 4, 5, 6 and 9. Perfect square number never ends with 2, 3 , 7 and 8. If a number ends with n number of zeroes then the square of its ends with 2n number of zeroes. Perfect square number never end with odd number of zeroes. Problem based on finding the square root of a number by prime factorization method and division method. Homework:- Textual exercises Vocabulary:- Squaring Square root
