CHAPTER 2 REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This study provides a comprehensive collection of related literature and research

studies, serving as a reference for researchers to gain deeper insights and comprehension
of the study's development.
2.1 Foreign Related Studies
According to Aravinthkumar, S., Makkar, S., Al-Absi, A.A. (2021). “Smart
Parking Management System in Shopping Malls”. This system is used by parking
management in shopping malls. This system will increase the availability of parking
during weekends and rushing hours in shopping malls. This system includes two steps.
This system has two components: one is the pre-reservation of parking for vehicle
owners, and the other is a parking management system for vendors. The smart parking
system will provide current parking availability status for vehicle owners. If available,
they can reserve the parking after making an online payment, or else they can find another
parking area. This system has an application used by parking management to manage all
parking areas and will be used for making reservations upon entry of vehicles. This will
be very helpful in saving time and a lot of effort in finding a space to park the vehicle,
especially during the weekends. The system allowed users to connect to the smart parking
system from anywhere with their smart phones in any browser. And this information is
also available to the parking operators to determine the free parking areas, and statistics
can be measured at different times in a day on each parking space.

According to Shimi (2022).”An intelligent parking management system using

RFID technology based on user preferences” Due to the tremendous progress in the
automotive industry and the growth of the urban population, the number of cars in this
systemin this system is increasing, which creates parking challenges. Intelligent parking
management systems offer an optimal solution for finding empty parking spaces so that
drivers can quickly find their car parking spaces. To make Shimi aware of these issues, it
is necessary to design an intelligent parking system that, besides providing comfort to
drivers, is also economically viable. In this paper, an intelligent multi-storey car parking
management system called MODM-RPCP is proposed with the help of RFID technology
and user preference review, which effectively solves car parking issues. The MODM-
RPCP approach is a multi-objective decision-making method that reduces the problem of
the average booking time and response time of the central parking management server.
The simulation results show that the MODM-RPCP reduces the average booking time by
more than 19.2 and 27.1% and decreases the response time of the central parking
management server by more than 20.1 and 29.78% compared to the MOGWOLA and
ODPP approaches.
According to Nguyen Viet Long (2023). “Towards Smart Parking Management:
Econometric Analysis and Modeling of Public-Parking-Choice Behavior in Three Cities
of Binh Duong, Vietnam”. This system has developed cities; newly emerging cities have
started facing the problem of insufficient public parking facilities and ineffective
regulations. To support the planning, design, and management of the public parking
system towards a smart and sustainable city vision, it is necessary to study parking
behaviors deeply. This system paper presents an empirical study on the parking-choice
behaviors of motorcycle users and car users in the emerging cities of developing countries
through a case study of three cities in Binh Duong, Vietnam. This system explores
behavioral mechanisms and influential factors; the multinomial logit parking choice
models are developed using revealed preference and stated preference data. The users’
overall satisfaction and perceived importance of parking lot design and service aspects are
analyzed using order logistic regression. The revealed choices show no trade-off between
parking fee and walking distance, as the users are not fully aware of parking locations and
service features.
2.2 Local Related Studies
According to John Rovic M Brillantes et. al (2021) “PARKING BOY: A
MOBILE-BASED PARKING BOOKING SYSTEM”. This mobile-based parking system
reduces the time and struggle of locating an available parking space nearby. The
system's ability to accurately designate a driver for a vacant parking lot has many
environmental benefits, such as reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, noise, and
other kinds of pollution. Especially during peak hours, where traffic is unbearable, it is
going to be inconvenient for someone to travel around looking for available spaces. The
system also proves to be very convenient for easily locating a parking space, considering
that there are also available spaces reserved for the disabled, government vehicles, and
emergency vehicles.
According to Amira. A. Elsonbaty, Mahmoud Shams (2020). “The Smart Parking
Management System”. This system have a growing, Car parking increases with the
number of car users. This system has increased the use of smartphones and their
applications; users prefer mobile phone-based solutions. This system has a paper that
proposes the Smart Parking Management System (SPMS) that depends on Arduino parts,
Android applications, and is based on IoT. The system gave the client the ability to check
available parking spaces and reserve a parking spot. IR sensors are utilized to know if a
parking space is allowed. Area data is transmitted using the WI-FI module to the server
and recovered by the mobile application, which offers many options attractively and at no
cost to users and lets the user check reservation details. With IoT technology, the smart
parking system can be connected wirelessly to easily track available locations.
According to Mondal, Md Ashifuddin (2021). "Smart parking management system
with dynamic pricing". This system of smart parking is becoming more and more an
integral part of smart city initiatives. Utilizing and managing parking areas is a
challenging task as space is often limited, finding empty spaces is hard, and citizens want
to park their vehicles close to their preferred places. This system becomes worse in
important or posh areas of major metropolitan cities during rush hour. Due to the
unavailability of a proper parking management system, citizens have to roam around a lot
in order to find a suitable parking area. This system leads to the waste of valuable time,
unnecessary fuel consumption, and environmental pollution. This paper proposes a smart
parking management system (SPMS) based on a multiple criteria-based parking space
reservation algorithm (MCPR) that allows the driver or owner of vehicles to find and
reserve the most appropriate parking space from anywhere at any time. The system also
considers the concept of a dynamic pricing strategy for calculating parking charges in
order to gain more revenue from government agencies as well as private investors. The
system employs sensors to calculate the concentration index and average inter-arrival
time of vehicles in a parking area for better parking management and planning. The
simulation results show that the proposed system reduces the average extra driving
required by the users to find a parking area, and hence it will reduce traffic congestion,
which in turn reduces air pollution caused by unnecessary driving to find a proper parking
area.
