“Mounting 3U Series xx50, WWA-x10, and WWA-xx10 to a Rack” on page 14
“Mounting Models 3U Series xx20 to a Rack” on page 18
Important: All 3U systems must be mounted to a four-post rack; they cannot be mounted to a two-post rack.
Important: For 3U xx20 models reseat all hard disks prior to powering the unit on. Reseat 3U xx20 disks anytime the
Steelhead appliance is shipped to a new location.
Important: Series x50 systems are designed for the desktop. If you install these systems in a rack do not place objects
on top of the system; it causes restricted airflow and can damage the system.
Note: For rack installation instructions describing 520, 1020, 1520, and 2020 systems, see the documentation enclosed
with these products. The documentation enclosed with 1U xx20 systems describes how to standard or center mount to
a two-post rack or standard mount to a four-post rack.
Overview
Depending on your order, some systems require that the inner rails be attached to the chassis before they
can be installed in a rack.
The 1U and 3U systems produce front-to-back cooling airflow that requires an unobstructed airflow to
the fan housing. Do not mount the system near other electronic devices that produce back-to-front
airflow.
The Series x50 require sideways airflow. Do not block the sides.
The Series x50 require air-convection cooling. If these models are installed in a rack, use the Riverbed
provided rack-mount.
The rack width and depth must allow for proper serviceability and cable management.
Make sure the rack is level and stable before pulling a component out of the rack.
Do not move racks by yourself; a minimum of two people are needed to move a rack.
Important: Series x50 systems are designed for side to side airflow. If you install these systems in a rack do not place
objects on the sides of the system; it causes restricted airflow and can damage the system.
2. To install the mounting brackets, use the included screw kit to secure the brackets onto the sides of the
chassis (at the front of the system) using three screws on each side.
