STAGE 1: DESIRED OBJECTIVES


A. OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
1. recognize the topic of the unit, the topic of the lesson and the situation for a
conversation about preparation for the new school year;
2. identify the specific information through reading and listening to the
conversation;
3. identify lexical items related to the first day at school and school things;
4. talk about the school things they can see in classroom;
5. recognize the joy of schooling (having new friends, new school things, new
uniform ,…).
B. LANGUAGE FOCUS
Key terms/ Vocabulary:
- First day at school: new friends, new school, new subjects, new uniform.
- School things: book, notebook, pencil sharpener, compass, school bag,
calculator, rubber, pencil case, …

Present simple: to talk about school things and activities on the first day at
school (e.g. I have new books. Students wear their uniforms on Mondays.)

STAGE 3: LEARNING EXPERIENCE
Activity 1: Listening and reading
- Write the unit title My New School on the board.
- Ask students to guess what they are going to learn in this unit.
- Elicit the answers from students. Encourage them to talk about their
preparation for new school year, their school, new teachers, new friends.
- Have students look at the situation picture on page 6 in the textbook - Tieng
Anh 6.
- Ask them the following questions about the picture and confirm the correct
answers.
1. Who are the children?
(Phong, Vy and Duy)
2. Who are Vy and Duy?
(They are the boy and the girls who are wearing uniform and school bags)
3. Who is Duy?
(He is Vy’s new friend.)
4. Where are they?
(at Phong’s house)
5. What are they talking about?
(preparation for the new school year, their new school, the first day at
school, a new friend)
6. Is today is a special day to these children? Why?
(Yes. Because this is the first day at school. they are going to meet new
friends, new teacher and find out new things about their school. )
- Play the recording twice for students to listen and read along.
- Have students underline the words that are related to the topic of the unit while
they are listening and reading.
- Call on some groups of students to read the conversation aloud.
- Ask students what exactly Vy, Phong and Duy are talking about.
- Elicit students’ answers and give constructive feedback.
