SAS Architecture Explanation
SAS Architecture Explanation
a.) if you see the downside of the SAS Architecture which is HSR protocol
Below explained all the connections are IEC 61850 protocol
220kV BCUs +General Alarm+ AVR, 220kV Protection,132kV BCUs, 132kV Protection1, 132kV
Protection2+LVAC.
Each equipment/device are connected to the Red Box like the ring topology
Then signals from Each Red Box are reporting to Ethernet switch-3 & Ethernet switch-4.
Then Ethernet switch-3 is reporting to Ethernet switch-1 & Ethernet switch-4 is reporting to Ethernet
switch-2
Note:-
cybersecurity is provide to each Ethernet switch which is nothing but the IDS switch.
IDS is nothing but the Intrusion Detection system.
b.) Now you see the middle of the SAS Architecture which is PRP protocol.
In that bus like structure is formed that is named as PRP LAN-A & another bus structure is PRP
LAN-B
(i.) Now, each devices are reporting to the PRP LAN-A & PRP LAN-B how??
220kV BBP is connected to the PRP LAN-A bus & PRP LAN-B bus
Likewise,
132kV BBP is connected to the PRP LAN-A bus & PRP LAN-B bus
GPS-Time server 1 with antenna is connected to the PRP LAN-A bus & PRP LAN-B bus
GPS-Time server 2 with antenna is connected to the PRP LAN-A bus & PRP LAN-B bus
220kV Station controller 1 PC is connected to the PRP LAN-A bus & PRP LAN-B bus
220kV Station controller 2 PC is connected to the PRP LAN-A bus & PRP LAN-B bus
132kV Station Controller-1 PC is connected to the PRP LAN-A bus & PRP LAN-B bus
132kV Station Controller-2 PC is connected to the PRP LAN-A bus & PRP LAN-B bus
HMI server-1 PC is connected to the PRP LAN-A bus & PRP LAN-B bus
HMI server-2 PC is connected to the PRP LAN-A bus & PRP LAN-B bus
Additionally, two RED Box are connected to the PRP LAN-A bus & PRP LAN-B bus
KVM switch is shown which is connected to the 220kV Station controller 1,2 PC & 132kV Station
Controller-1,2 PC
Ethernet Switch -1 is connected to the PRP LAN-A bus
Ethernet Switch-2 is connected to the PRP LAN-B bus
c.) Now we see the top left side of the SAS Architecture
This portion is explain about how the signals are transfer to the remote Control center(Load Dispatch
center).
So, how it works?
We have the two ethernet switches for the LDC-signals need to be transfer
LDC Ethernet switch-5
LDC Ethernet switch-6
220kV Station controller 1 PC & 220kV Station controller 2 PC & 132kV Station controller 1 PC &
132kV Station controller 2 PC all the devices are individually connected to the LDC Ethernet switch-
5 & LDC Ethernet switch-6
Now we have the four no’s of Firewall for LDC
LDC Firewall-1
LDC Firewall-2
LDC Firewall-3
LDC Firewall-4.
LDC Firewall-1 connection
It is connected to the LDC Ethernet switch-5 & RED Box-1 in the PRP protocol section(middle)
LDC Firewall-3 connection
It is connected to the LDC Ethernet switch-5 & RED Box-1 in the PRP protocol section(middle)
LDC Firewall-4 connection
It is connected to the LDC Ethernet switch-6 & RED Box-2 in the PRP protocol section(middle)
LDC Firewall-2 connection
It is connected to the LDC Ethernet switch-6 & RED Box-2 in the PRP protocol section(middle)
We have the Engineering PC, Security Server PC & Intrusion detection system which are connected
to the LDC Ethernet switch-5 & LDC Ethernet switch-4
Note:-
LDC Firewall-3 & LDC Firewall-4 are interconnected.
d.) Signals from the Local end substation to the remote end control center/power plant control center
what protocols are used?
It is nothing but the IEC-104 protocol
These firewall-3 & firewall-4 signals are connected/ reporting to the remote power plant & remote
LDC center
These firewall-1 & firewall-2 signals are connected/ reporting to the remote LDC center only
e.)How the signals from the local end substation to the remote control center ??
The Telecom/mux panel act as the intermediate medium to transfer the signals.
Note:-
These telecom/mux panel are installed on both the Local End substation & Remote end control
center.
