4. Procedures
To open up the topic the teacher will read a short story.
Jake had always been fascinated by the farm implements and equipment on his
family’s farm. One crisp autumn morning, his father decided it was time for Jake to
learn about these essential tools.

Leading him to the barn, his father introduced each piece of equipment: the plow, the
seeder, and the combine harvester. “Knowledge, skills, attitude, and values,” his
Opening Activity
father said. “You need to know what these machines do, how to use them, take care
(4 minutes)
of them, and respect their role on our farm.”

Excited and a bit nervous, Jake climbed onto the tractor for the first time. He realized
that mastering these implements was about more than just driving; it was about
continuing his family’s farming legacy. With a deep breath, he turned the key, ready to
start his journey.

Analysis Students will be required to answer the following question:

(3 minutes)  What are the key objectives in learning about farm implements and common
farm equipment, and why are they important for sustainable farming
practices?
 What attitudes and values are essential for responsibly managing farm
equipment, and how do they impact the long-term success of a farming
operation?
 How does understanding and maintaining farm implements and equipment
contribute to the efficiency and productivity of a farm?
Students are encourage to participate orally.
Types of Farm Implements and Equipment
Plows - Used for tilling the soil, breaking up the ground, and preparing it for planting.
Plows come in different types such as moldboard, chisel, and disc plows.Seeders:
Machines designed to plant seeds uniformly across a field. They ensure optimal
spacing and depth for seed germination.
Harrows - Used to smooth and level the soil surface after plowing, helping to break up
clumps and prepare the seedbed.
Cultivators - Employed for weed control and soil aeration between the rows of crops.
They help in maintaining soil health and crop growth.
Harvesters - Includes combine harvesters which are used to reap, thresh, and clean
grains in one operation. Other types include potato diggers and sugar cane
harvesters.
Abstract Tractors - The workhorses of modern farming, used to pull various implements and
(35 minutes) perform a wide range of tasks, from plowing to transportation.
Sprayers - Used for applying fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides, ensuring the
health and protection of crops.
Importance of Proper Maintenance
- Regular maintenance ensures that equipment operates at peak efficiency, reducing
downtime and increasing productivity.
Longevity - Well-maintained machinery lasts longer, providing better returns on
investment and reducing the need for frequent replacements.
Safety - Proper upkeep minimizes the risk of accidents, protecting both the operator
and the equipment.
Environmental Impact - Efficient machinery uses resources like fuel more effectively
and reduces the emission of pollutants.

1. How does the type of plow used (moldboard, chisel, or disc) affect soil preparation
and crop yields in different soil conditions?
2. What are the key maintenance practices that should be routinely performed on
Application
harvesters to ensure they operate efficiently throughout the harvesting season?
(4 minutes)
3. In what ways can the use of precision agriculture technology enhance the
application of fertilizers and pesticides by modern sprayers, and what are the
environmental benefits?
5. Assessment (10 minutes)
Direction: In a ½ sheet of paper answer directly the following questions. Write T if the
statement is true and write F if the statement is not true.

1. Plows are primarily used for harvesting crops.

2. Seeders ensure uniform spacing and depth for seed germination.
3. Harrows are used before plowing to prepare the soil surface.
4. Cultivators are employed for weed control and soil aeration.
5. Harvesters are machines used for reaping, threshing, and cleaning grains in
one operation.
6. Tractors are mainly used for transporting harvested crops from the field to the
storage facility.
7. Sprayers are used for applying only fertilizers to crops.
8. Proper maintenance of farm equipment can increase efficiency and reduce
downtime.
9. Well-maintained machinery often requires more frequent replacements.
10. Regular maintenance of equipment contributes to environmental
sustainability by reducing resource consumption and emissions.

6. Assignment (2 minutes)
Research and study in advance the safety precautions of farm implement and
equipment.
The teacher will end the lesson with a quote.
7. Wrap-Up/
Concluding Activity “Farm implements are the silent guardians of agriculture, transforming the toil of the
(1 minutes) land into the bounty of the harvest.”
