Introductory Message
For the Facilitator:

Welcome to the English 9 Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module on Using Adverbs in
Narration.

This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators from public
institutions to assist you, the teacher or facilitator in helping the learners meet the standards set
by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their personal, social, and economic constraints in
schooling.

This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent learning
activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims to help learners acquire the
needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.

For the Learner:

Welcome to the English 9 Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module on Use Adverbs in
Narration.

An adverb is a word that modifies (describes) a verbs (she talks loudly), an adjective (very
gorgeous), another adverb (ended too early), or even a whole sentence (Fortunately, I had
informed them earlier). Adverbs often end in –ly, but some (such as fast) look exactly the same
as their adjective counterparts.
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities for guided and
independent learning at your own pace and time. You will be enabled to process the contents of
the learning resource while being an active learner.

What I Need to Know

Adverbs are like seasoning in the sentences. They help describe how things
appear and how things happen. They help a reader see an action in their mind’s eye. So,
adverbs help you control what others see when you speak or write and are one of the
necessary components of good writing.
Please help the learners in sharing their ideas and knowledge from their
experiences so that there will be collaboration and learning will be easy.
Answers are written at the back of this module. Inculcate to the learners the value
of honesty while answering this module.
For the learner:
You will be given activities that you can answer on your own after reading and
going through the different parts of this module. Please remember not to make markings
on this module and write your answers on your notebook.

At the end of this module, you are expected to:

1. state the definition of an adverb and tell which parts they modify;
2. recognize the types of adverbs; and
3. use adverbs in narration
What I Know

Find ten (10) adverbs in the following sentences. Write your answer in your English
notebook.

effectively. With a couple of adverbs by your side, you can add further description,
describe an action, or intensify the meaning of another word.
