A crochet basket makes a lovely home décor item. And these three nesting baskets

Terminology:
CH = Chain HDC = Half Double Crochet RPT = Repeat
SC = Single Crochet SLST = Slip Stitch ST= Stitch
Size/Gauge:
Small basket: 5” diameter, 2 ¼” height. Medium: 7” x 3”. Large: 11” x 5.5”. Gauge:
7 STs & 8 ROWs (RNDs) = 4” SQ.
Materials:
700 yrds total of worsted weight 100% acrylic yarn for all 3 baskets. Samples used 2
full skeins of Red Heart Super Saver (each skein is 364 yds). Two strands of yarn will
be held together throughout. Size H 5 mm crochet hook. Scissors, yarn needle.

With 2 strands of yarn held throughout, make a magic ring.

BASE:

SMALL BASKET

RND 1: CH 1. 10 HDC in ring. Pull ring to close. SLST to first ST.
RND 2: CH 1. 2 HDC in each ST. SLST to first ST.
RND 3: CH 1. RPT [2 HDC, then HDC in next ST] around. SLST to first ST.
RND 4: CH 1. RPT [2 HDC, then HDC in next 2 STs] around. SLST to first ST.
RND 5: CH 1. RPT [2 HDC, then HDC in next 3 STs] around. SLST to first ST.
PROCEED TO SIDES SECTION.

MEDIUM BASKET

RNDS 1-5: Follow SMALL BASKET instructions above.


RND 6: CH 1. RPT [2 HDC, then HDC in next 4 STs] around. SLST to first ST.
RND 7: CH 1. RPT [2 HDC, then HDC in next 5 STs] around. SLST to first ST.
PROCEED to SIDES SECTION

LARGE BASKET

RNDS 1-7: Follow MEDIUM BASKET instructions above.


RND 8: CH 1. RPT [2 HDC, then HDC in next 6 STs] around. SLST to first ST.
RND 9: CH 1. RPT [2 HDC, then HDC in next 7 STs] around. SLST to first ST.
RND 10: CH 1. RPT [2 HDC, then HDC in next 8 STs] around. SLST to first ST.
RND 11: CH 1. RPT [2 HDC, then HDC in next 9 STs] around. SLST to first ST.

SIDES:
RND 1: CH 1. SC in back loops only around. SLST to first ST.

RND 2: CH 1. RPT [HDC in back loop, HDC under both loops] around. SLST to first
ST.

ALL BASKETS

RND 1: CH 1. Reverse SC around. Or just SC around if desired. SLST to first ST.


Fasten off and weave in ends.

Feel free to use a stiffening product, such as starch, spray stiffeners, or glue/water
mixture. Cover a similar-shaped and comparable-sized object, like a cooking pot,
with a plastic bag or plastic wrap for protection. Then place the basket over the
item. Spray or paint the mixtures onto the baskets with a brush and let dry.
