First Lesson Goal Setting Master Class
First Lesson Goal Setting Master Class
Hello! Welcome to the first lesson of my Goals Setting Masterclass. In this lesson, we will
discuss an important question: Which goal should you start with, and why?
The answer is simple. If you want to achieve anything in life, it all comes down to you. You must
decide what it is that you want to achieve. Studies have shown that successful people take
personal responsibility as the first step to achieving anything worthwhile. Before you take
responsibility, nothing happens. But afterward, everything happens. Taking responsibility means
that you have to own the process of building your ideal life. Once you accept complete
responsibility, your whole life begins to change. If you want your life to be a certain way, or if you
want to achieve something specific, then it is up to you to make it happen. Nobody else will do it
for you. This is where goal setting comes in. You cannot hit a target that you cannot see. So
when you set a goal, you give yourself a target to aim for. This simple step can dramatically
increase the likelihood that you will hit your target. But we all know that life can be complicated.
There will be ups and downs, distractions, and roadblocks. If you haven't set a goal, or more
importantly, if you haven't set the right goal, then you're never going to see any real progress. If
you have been feeling stuck, even though you are setting goals, then you must be sure that you
are setting SMART goals. When you set SMART goals, you are able to pick your target out of a
crowd of targets every time, and you know exactly what you need to do to achieve your goal, no
matter what life throws at you. It almost gives you a superpower, drawing you to your goal like a
homing pigeon. They call this the law of attraction, and it works for everybody, everywhere,
under all circumstances. SMART goals are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and
Timely. We will go over how to set SMART goals later in this course. For now, let's start thinking
about how to choose which goal you should aim for first.
Take a moment and close your eyes. Imagine that you have the inborn ability to achieve any
goal you could ever set for yourself. Who do you want to be? Are you working a new job or
traveling the world? Maybe you're spending more time with your family, getting a big raise, or
starting a groundbreaking company. Have you pictured something, or maybe a few things? Now,
open your eyes. What you have in your mind is a dream, but not quite a goal. Goals are dreams
with a deadline—dreams that you decide to accomplish. Now that you've had some time to think
about some possible goals or outcomes, it's time to start putting these ideas down on paper in a
brainstorm.
Remember, this is very important if you are going to be successful: You can learn any skill you
need to learn to accomplish any goal you set for yourself. No one is smarter than you, and no
one is better than you. All business skills, sales skills, and money-making skills are learnable.
Everyone who is good at something today was once not good at it. The top people in every field
were, at one time, not even in that field and didn't even know that the field existed for them.
What hundreds of thousands of other people have done, you can do as well. The fact that they
have done it is proof that you can do it too.
Exercise:
Go ahead and open your workbook and check out the first exercises. As you fill out this
workbook, imagine that you have the inborn ability to achieve any goal you could ever set for
yourself. What do you really want to be, have, and do each and every day? Write these down.
They'll help you choose your first goal. If you're stuck, identify the activities that give you the
greatest sense of meaning and purpose in life. How could you do more of them? What would
you like your life to be if you did more of these things, or only these things? If you're struggling
to come up with goals, start thinking about the type of people that you look up to. What do their
daily lives look like? What have they achieved that you'd also like to achieve? There are only so
many hours in the day. Once you complete the lesson-one activities in the workbook, we're
going to work together in the next lesson to help pick one goal to start with—a goal that will
have the greatest positive impact on your life; something actionable, achievable, and
life-changing. I look forward to seeing you in the next lesson, and congratulations on starting
your journey. This could be the most important action you've ever taken in your life. I know
you're going to achieve great things with this program. Let's get started
