APPENDIX E

Interview Protocol
Steps in the interview.
1. Speak Maranaw or Filipino
2. Say “Assalamo Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatoh! (Greetings of Peace and
Prosperity!)” to the respondents.
3. Ask the respondent how he/she feels.
4. Ask the respondent if he/she has experience interview.
5. Introduce yourself.
6. Give a brief overview of the research and why it is being conducted.
7. Inform the respondent about his/her right as a respondent and the confidentiality of the
data he/she provides.
8. Inform the respondent that he/she can speak the language of his/her choice.
9. Ask the respondent if he/she is ready.
10. Ask the questions “What are the factors that you think affect your aversion (dislikes) in
mathematics?”
11. Listen attentively and take note key words. Audio or Video Record (if necessary).
12. Always ask “what else?” and “can you elaborate on that?”
13. If the respondent is taking a long pause and seems out of words, ask the following.
a. Tell me about difficulty you have encounter in mathematics.
b. Do you feel like mathematics is boring?
c. How do you deal with the formulae and units?
d. Do you understand how your teacher in mathematics teach?
e. Tell me about your previous teachers in mathematics.
f. Aren’t you having difficulty in dealing mathematical expression?
g. What problem do you encounter in mathematics you dislike most?
h. Do you understand the wording of word problem in mathematics?
i. If there someone influencing you to dislike mathematics?
j. Are you interested learning mathematics?
k. Is there something you want to add?

14. What course are you pursuing in college?


15. Do you think there is a mathematics subject in the course you are pursuing?
16. Express gratefulness to the respondents.
