REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This section of this study discusses the relevant and important literature that provided

the theoretical basis of this study. Similarly, related studies and related reading both

local and foreign were reviewed.

Related Literature

Local Literature

According to Quijano (2023), Marketing is a vital component of any

business, and in today’s world, it’s more important than ever to have a solid marketing

strategy. The Philippines is a country with a population of over 113 million people,

which is a gold mine for local and offshore businesses. And, as businesses become

increasingly, it is essential to have a solid marketing strategy that will reach your target

market. This is especially true in the Philippines, where there’s a growing middle class

with more disposable income. This means that in today's business scene, a strong

marketing plan is essential. Given the Philippines' growing middle class with rising

disposable money, a well-crafted marketing plan is even more important for effectively

reaching and engaging the target market. Moreover one of the opportunities to save

16
journey in the middle class in the Philippines is affiliate marketing or online marketing

it serves as a dual-purpose platform for students, offering a pathway to financial

stability while simultaneously enriching their academic journey. As students navigate

the complexities of higher education, affiliate marketing emerges as a viable means of

generating income. Through promoting products or services on various online

platforms, students can earn passive income, thereby alleviating financial pressures and

gaining financial independence. This financial support enables students to focus more

on their studies, as they are empowered to allocate their time and resources more

efficiently. Additionally, they empower them to navigate their financial and academic

journey with confidence and resilience.

According to Lara (2019), online selling is on top of a line kind of

business that can help through the use of technology particularly in selling, in this way,

social media is a big factor and helps to purchase online. The students don't need to go

out and hang out, struggle in the outstanding traffic and strenuous walk in the mall just

to shop and buy the things they need, Post, advertise, and have numerous followers and

friends on any kind of social media account. Online selling's influence on students

transcends convenience and affordability, profoundly impacting their social

interactions, consumption behaviors, and technological literacy, thus reshaping their

overall lifestyle and behavior.

Filipino value online shopping because of its convenience and accessibility. Product

marketing and service marketing are equally significant because they both can be direct

in providing proof and specific information and features about the products and

services a business provides (Leonard, 2018). Students and parents rely on the internet

to acquire and sell textbooks at affordable prices, virtual stores allow people to shop

from the comfort of their homes without the pressure of a salesperson, and online

17
marketplaces provide a new and more convenient venue for the exchange of virtually

all types of goods and services. Moreover one of the major reasons that many people

turn to online shopping is its due convenience in nature and as it saves a lot of time and

effort as compared to real-time shopping. Filipinos are known for being cautious in

terms of purchasing a product. They securely pick the product with high quality.

Foreign Literature

According to (Hanif et al., 2018). The effect of knowledge management and

entrepreneurial orientation on organization performance. The histrionic increases the
scope and diversity of online advertisements more than conformist ones. In stated
businesses are extensively using such virtual advertisements to promote versatile
products and services. Point out the three obstacles to online shopping namely failure to
buy, security, and service fear hindrances. this marketing implies the knowledge of the
students that can guide them to build their business without fear of their mistakes and
failures it will serve as motivation. More Over integration of knowledge management
and entrepreneurial orientation not only enhances organizational performance but also
has significant implications for students. By understanding the dynamics of online
advertisement and overcoming obstacles such as security concerns and service fears,
students gain valuable insights into contemporary marketing strategies.
Authored by Suresh V, Vetri Selvi M, Maran K, and A.R.Shanmuga Priya in
May 2018, the text sheds light on affiliate marketing's implications for students
interested in digital marketing or e-commerce. By exploring how website owners
collaborate with businesses to promote products through ads, it provides practical
insights for students entering the marketing or business field. Understanding the
dynamics of affiliate marketing not only equips students with effective marketing
strategies but also offers a glimpse into consumer behavior in the digital age. Moreover,
the text underscores the importance of data-driven decision-making through empirical
research methods like online questionnaires, enabling students to grasp the significance
of analyzing consumer preferences and the effectiveness of affiliate marketing tactics.
Ultimately, the text serves as a valuable resource, bridging theoretical concepts with
real-world applications to empower students in navigating the dynamic landscape of
digital marketing and e-commerce.
According to Duffy (2015), the majority of the companies perceived that
affiliate marketing is related to the money paid for a successful marketed product but it
is contrary to that affiliate marketing can be evaluated as the marketing with the lowest
risk because marketers get the payment based on performance. Affiliate marketing is

18
sometimes confused with Referral marketing but in reality, they both are different
things. Affiliate marketing depends on the motivation that comes from financial
rewards. Students may experience both benefits and drawbacks that come from internet
marketing. Positively, technology can offer possibilities for skill development, useful
knowledge and tools, and easier access to educational resources. But it can also be a
distraction, causing one to put off tasks and pay less attention to their academic
obligations. Additionally, students' purchasing habits and materialism may be
encouraged by exposure to targeted advertising. In general, how internet marketing is
used and an individual's capacity to control its effect determine how it affects students.

Justification

Online shopping platforms have seen a rise in the use of affiliate marketing,

especially among high school students who are involved in the digital marketplace. The

purpose of this study is to investigate how affiliate marketing affects this particular

demographic. In our investigation, we explore the existing literature, recent studies, and

relevant readings to understand the multifaceted effects of affiliate marketing on high

school students' purchasing behavior, social interactions, and academic performance.

Drawing from articles published within the past five to ten years, our review

synthesizes insights into the dynamics of affiliate marketing and its influence on online

shopping behavior among High School Students. These studies highlight the role of

social media influencers, the power of peer recommendations, and the psychological

mechanisms driving purchasing decisions. Additionally, our focus on the results of

pertinent articles reveals significant correlations between keywords such as "Affiliate

Marketing," "Online Shopping Platforms," and "High School Students." Findings

indicate a strong association between exposure to affiliate marketing content and an

increased likelihood of purchasing products endorsed by influencers. Furthermore,

research indicates that although affiliate marketing can improve brand exposure and

23
consumer involvement, it may potentially exacerbate teenage financial literacy issues

and impulsive purchasing habits. By adding pertinent literature from both domestic and

international authors to our study, we can find sources that provide in-depth analyses of

the complexities of affiliate marketing and its effects on high school pupils. These

readings offer useful tips for navigating the always-changing field of consumer

protection and digital marketing ethics for educators, parents, and legislators. These

books provide readers with the information and resources they need to assess affiliate

marketing's effects on teenage consumers objectively and take steps to lessen them by

combining theoretical frameworks with practical examples.

Finally, our study emphasizes how critical it is to comprehend how internet

buying platforms, specifically affiliate marketing, affect high school pupils. Through

the integration of current research, empirical investigations, and enlightening literature,

we have shed light on the complex characteristics of this occurrence. Going forward,

stakeholders must work together to put ethical standards and educational initiatives into

place so that young consumers are better equipped to navigate the intricacies of the

digital economy.
