8.2 Work Methodology
8.2.1 Installation of Lighting Fixtures (Internal and External)
8.2.1.1 Ceiling System

• In false ceilings, luminaires whether surface or recessed mounted shall not be supported by
the false ceiling construction. Separate independent supporting systems shall be provided for
each luminaire, comprising drop rods and chains or similar.
• Luminaires installed in false ceilings shall be connected to the lighting circuit using
mechanically coupled plug - in ceiling roses or as per approved shop drawings.
• Luminaires shall be positioned to provide ease of access for maintenance, cleaning etc. while
not impairing the distribution of light.

• Ensure that the luminaire manufacturer has the correct details of the ceiling system, including
suspension, tiles, etc. Ensure that the luminaires are supplied with the correct trim,
suspension system and are fully compatible with the ceiling system.

8.2.1.2 Termination / Earthing

• Connector strip terminals shall have a current rating not less than the rating of the circuit
protective device and shall be encapsulated in self-extinguishing grade polyethylene.
• All light fittings shall be provided with an earthing terminal which shall be connected to the
earth continuity lead of the final sub–circuit.
• The earthing of all pendant or semi- pendant fittings shall be by a separate core in the
connecting flex or cable securely bonding the earth terminal on the fitting to the glanded joint
of interconnecting cables. In no case shall pendant chains or conduit support tubes be used
as a means of earthing.

Note: All terminations and earthing installations shall be as per as per approved shop drawings.

8.2.1.3 Installation of Internal Lighting Fixtures Procedure

• Prior to installation of lighting fixture, the entire installation works for electrical circuitry must
be completed, tested and accepted by Consultant Inspector.
• Verify that the location of the installation point is as per approved shop drawings.
• Ensure the circuitries are isolated and tag with proper warning signs. Use a voltmeter to verify
that the circuit is not energized before commencing work.
• In the installation area, set lighting fixtures plumb, square, and level with ceiling and walls, in
alignment with adjacent lighting fixtures and secure in accordance with manufacturer's
instructions and approved drawings.
• Once the mounting position of the lighting fixtures is determined, dismantled the light fixtures
assemblies according to manufacturer's installation guide.
• The light fixtures assembly are then prepared and fixed by using screws and hand / power
tools or with manufacturer recommendation.
• After all the screws had been fitted, perform tightening inspection by using hand tools to
ensure the lighting fixtures are secure on ceiling or walls.
• Visually inspects the internal wiring & components of the lighting fixtures for any loose
termination of wire & components.
• Identify the electrical hook - up terminal points by referring to manufacturer's installation
guide.
• Hook up the electrical wire to the fitting’s terminal points.

• Visually inspect and ensure the expose conductors complies to Por Ex (protection rating) to
prevent electrical hazard during future maintenance and troubleshooting work , also potential
mechanical damage to wire when securing the housing/cover.
• All metal enclosure should be grounded to ensure effective equipotential bonding.
• The final step of the installation is to re-assemble the lighting fixtures and install the
appropriate lamp and cover it.
• On completion of Internal lighting installation, including fittings, inspect exposed finish.
Remove dirt and clean complete fittings and construction debris around the installation area.
• Inspection request shall be arranged for approval for the installations of lighting fixtures
before final energization will proceed.
• Using Temporary (or permanent supply if now available) Test the functionality of the Internal
lightings via its switches and circuit breakers by switching " ON " & " OFF ". Ensure that the
number of lights per circuit corresponds to the approve drawing.
• Once succeeded on this internal or Pre-testing and commissioning, then the Installation may
now be ready to Final Test and Commissioning.

8.2.1.4 Installation of External Lighting Fixtures Procedure

• Prior to installation of external lighting fixture, the entire installation works for electrical
circuitry must be completed, tested and accepted by Consultant Inspector.
• External lighting fixture shall be installed outside the building and serves as building external
lighting.
• Ensure the circuitries are isolated and tag with proper warning signs. Use a voltmeter to verify
that the circuit is not energized before commencing work.
• Once the mounting position of the external lighting fixture is determined, dismantled the
fixture assemblies and then fixed by using screws and hand/power tools or with manufacturer
recommendation.
• Set external lighting fixture plumb and alignment on walls and fitted all screws perform
tightening inspection by using hand tools to ensure the lighting fixture are secure on walls.
• Visual inspects the internal wiring & components of the external lighting fixture for any loose
termination of wire & components.
• Identify the electrical hook-up terminal points by referring to manufacturer's installation
guide.
• Visually inspect and ensure the expose conductors complies to IP or Ex (protection rating) to
prevent electrical hazard during future maintenance and troubleshooting work, also potential
mechanical damage to wire when securing the housing/cover.
• All external light fittings shall be adequately earthed. All metal enclosure should be earthed
to ensure effective equipotential bonding.
