Chorale Reading Script

ALL: Greetings earthlings!

{THE REST ECHO}
ALMA: A pleasant day to each and every one present here at this very moment.
ALL: We
DAN, SENO, ADZER: the brilliantly united,
FREN, NICA, CESS: witty, born ready
ALL: Group 2 will let you come join us in our
ALMA: Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious adventure into
ALL: the deep forest {LOW, SLOW, SCARY VOICE}
ALL: of PURPOSIVE COMUNICATION GE 1 LESSONS.
CESS: Enjoy the ride!
SENO: It’s going to be bumpy.
PERLYN: In a count of one
SHEILA: Two
MAE: Three
ALL: Here we go!
(MAG TRAIN AND TUYOK KA ISA)
DAN: First stop, the communication!
SENO: What is communication?
(whispers)
FREN & ADZER: Shhhhhhh QUIET!!!
ADZER: Communication is simply the act of transferring information from one place, person or
group to another.
ALL: Aaaahhh act of transferring information! {all}
FREN: Every communication involves at least one sender, a message and a receiver. This may
sound simple, but communication is actually a very complex subject.
ALL: Complex subject {3x travel}
ALL: The transmission of the message from sender to recipient can be affected by a
hugerange of things. These include our emotions, the cultural situation, the medium used to
communicate, and even our location. The complexity is why good communication skills are
considered so desirable by employers around the world:
MAE, FREN, SENO, ADALIM: accurate,
JOHNNY, NICA, CESS, DAN: effective
AR, ADZER, SHEILA, PERLYN: and unambiguous communication is actually extremely hard.

DAN, MAE: But wait, wait, we still haven’t talk about the models of communication
ALL: Indeed, we haven’t yet!
DAN: Are you familiar of the Shannon-weaver communication model?
ALL: Ahhh yes! The sender, message, encoding, channel, receiver, decoding, and the
feedback.

NICA: Yes! We’re done! Let’s move to the next station.

CESS: No! wait, wait, wait there’s more. I think we forgot something…
PERLYN: What did we forget?
ADALIM: What’s missing?
ALL: {clap} the types of communication!
FREN & JOHNNY: The verbal communication
AR & DAN: Non-verbal communication!
ADZER & MAE: Written communication!
SHEILA & PERLYN: Visualization.
[Clap 3x]
SENO: Now we can proceed to the next station!
ALMA: The question “What is Cultural Sensitivity?” continues to haunt my mind. This is all we
ever wanted to know, but we are too politically correct to ask.
FRENCIS: There are several definitions of cultural sensitivity out there, but I find this one gets the
idea across the best.
CESS: Cultural sensitivity is being aware that cultural differences and similarities between
people exist without assigning them a value
GIRLS: positive
BOYS: or negative,
GIRLS: better
BOYS: or worse,
GIRLS: right
BOYS: or wrong.

SHEILA: cultural sensitivity

ALL: It simply means that you are aware that people are not all the same, and, that you
recognize that your culture is no better than any other culture. This is actually a
humongous challenge for members of dominant cultures.
DAN: Why is cultural sensitivity important? {baby voice with uwu sign}
ALL: A lack of cultural sensitivity can limit people’s ability to communicate effectively with
different groups – internally and externally – and can alienate or offend others, partners
and colleagues in different regions, countries and cultures.
ALL: By being culturally aware, you can recognize and appreciate other people's beliefs,
customs, and values to interact with them without prejudice or judgement. This
leads to more cultural connections and fewer interpersonal conflicts arising from cultural
differences.

{ad-lib, change formation}

ALL: The language register
ADALIM: also called linguistic register and speech register
ALL: this describes the way a person speaks in relation to their audience. A speaker modifies
their language register to signal levels of formality according to their relationship to their
audience and intended purpose of speech.
SENO: I didn’t understand it; can you elaborate it more? {baby voice}
ALMA: In English, for example, a speaker might modify their speech to fit a formal language
register by using more complex vocabulary and clear articulation, and by omitting any
slang or informal speech. Any type of spoken or written communication uses a language
register because register is a type of linguistic variation.
FREN: If you were in a meeting, do you think it is appropriate to use informal language?
ALMA: of course, No!
JOHNNY: No!?
SHEILA & SENO: No!?
ALMA: yes, it’s not appropriate. In addition, there are various types of language register.
FREN: The frozen register describes speech that is so formalize, that is often produced via
recitation rather than spontaneous speech production. Like reciting a pledge.
CESS: Formal register describes speech that is elevated, precise, and often professional
official or impersonal in nature. Example of this is a professional meeting.
PERLYN: Consultative register describes speech that involves the participation of all parties. For
instance, a doctor and a patient.
ADALIM: Casual register is a language used among and between friends.
[Drama]
NICA: “love, I’m hurt!”
ADZER: “what happened, love?”
NICA: “an ant bit me”
ADZER: “where? Do you want to me to kiss it so that the pain will go away?”
NICA: “love, I’m shy!” {ipaduol ang kamot sa lips sa boy}

ALL: Now, that’s intimate register! {disgusted face}

DAN: Our short trip ends here!

Chu chu [close folder, about face and march towards the exit]
SPEECH CHOIR

[FEET STOMPING, BALIK SA STAGE, FORMATION]

ACAPELLA: Zoom, zoom, zoom, zoom <3x>
Zoom (prolong)
ALL: Fake news! <pina singka>
<travel>

FAKE NEWS

Every day we hear various news

News that shapes our views
The supreme root of manipulation
To sway the naïve people of our nation

At a glance, you can never know if its false or true

As it’s entirely made to influence you
The truths are twisted and molded in such a way
That deceives you and make you believe in whatever they say

To diminish the lurking fake news or disinformation

Let us all be responsible and take an action
Fact-checking is the key
This is all we humbly plea
