3. 15.The subway train shown is traveling at a speed of 54

of kinetic friction is 0.35 between the wheels and the track,
determine (a) the distance required to bring the train to a
stop, (b) the force in each coupling.

up the rod. Knowing that the maximum deflection of the spring

velocity and then drop freely along the track. Determine the
normal force exerted by the track on the car as the car reaches
point B. Ignore air resistance and rolling resistance.

during a performance test. The motion of the automobile is
defined by the relation x = 12,000 ln(cosh 0.03t), where x and t
are expressed in meter and seconds, respectively. The

power dissipated by the aerodynamic drag when (a) t = 10 s,
(b) t = 15 s.
