Biomedical Engineering Department

Student’s name: Ali Hameed Ayed

Class: the first

Supervising teacher: Ali Jaafar is unaware

Tools:
1- Bekr
2- thermometer
3- Heating Device
4- Tool Holder
5- Snow

The method of work:

First, we put the snow in the bekr and put the thermometer in the holder, then we put the
tongue of the thermometer tangent to the piece of snow to zero the temperature of the
thermometer , After the thermometer reached zero degrees, but the degree

T1 = 0 ℃

After we recorded the first temperature, which was zero We placed the roller on top of the
heating device until the ice turned into water, until the thermometer began to raise its
indicator to degrees above zero, until the thermometer’s temperature became the second
temperature.

T2 = 42 ℃
From the following relationship we get the melting point:

T1 + T2
T=
2
0 + 42
T=
2

T = 21 ℃ Melting point
After we recorded the melting temperature, which was 21 ℃, we now bring the water to a
boil until we record the temperature necessary for the water to boil and measure it with a
thermometer.
We even noticed that the boiling temperature is read on the thermometer:

T = 100 ℃ Boiling Bemperature

Discussion:
1- Answer
Boiling Temperature : It is the degree at which the vapor pressure of a liquid is equal to the
atmospheric pressure, the applied external pressure, or it is the temperature at which the
substance begins to boil as it changes from the liquid state to the gaseous (vapor) state. Due to
the change in the boiling point with the external pressure, the pressure at which the boiling
point is measured must be stated and inferred. The purity of the liquid is determined by
estimating its boiling point. The Siwoloboffs method is used to determine the boiling point,
and the distillation method can be used. Simple if the amount of liquid substance is sufficient.
Factors affecting boiling point
1- The nature of the organic compound: A branched compound has a lower boiling point than
an unbranched compound
For the same type and the same molecular weight, due to the lack of bonds that bind the
molecules together Some.
2- Molecular weight of the liquid: The higher the molecular weight of the compound, the
higher the boiling point.
External pressure: There are many liquids that break and disintegrate at their boiling point and
at normal atmospheric pressure. Therefore, their boiling point must be reduced by reducing
the external pressure. The external pressure is directly proportional to the boiling point. The
higher the temperature, the higher the boiling point and thus the vapor pressure increases, as
the vapor pressure is proportional. directly with temperature.
- Purity of the compound: Impurities affect the boiling point of the compound, and there are
two types of impurities: -
. Humidity increases the boiling point of the compound.
. Organic or inorganic compounds that also increase the boiling point.
2- Answer
• Place the substance whose boiling point you want to measure in a glass tube with one
end closed.
• Connect the glass tube with a thermometer so that the substance is below...
• Place the open end of a narrow capillary tube into the tube...
• Place all contents in an oil bath and heat until...
• Reduce the flame and wait for the liquid to rise in the capillary tube
• Repeat the procedure to ensure the measurement is correct

3- Answer
Boiling point is the point at which the vapor pressure of a substance equals atmospheric
pressure. Therefore, the boiling point depends on the pressure. Boiling points that are
measured at standard pressure are often published
