Computer Classes in Schools
By Karen Kee
Nowadays, computers are
essentially an important part of human life. Most routines are heavily dependent on computer usage as they make work more efficient. I firmly agree with the stance that computer classes should be made compulsory in primary and secondary schools for its benefits. There are many advantages to the implementation of computer classes in schools. Firstly, students can learn to use Microsoft Office applications, for example Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel. All these applications are commonly used in all sorts of businesses and office work. If the students can master the applications at an early age, they will have a better career prospects than other competitors. In addition, computer classes in school allows students to be exposed to the related co-curricular activities. To illustrate, robotic competitions require students to code commands with the use of coding software in computers. Computer classes facilitates the learning of coding languages and allows the students to explore the coding languages at their own paces. On the other hand, computer classes in schools might come with some inevitable consequences. Students without self-discipline may face some difficulties when they are exposed to the technology. It is a fact that computers offer a lot of entertainment such as games or video streaming, so it might cause students to be addicted to the computer. Consequently, their academic performance might deteriorate due to the misuse of computers. In conclusion, computer classes in schools bring more pros than cons. Schools should set up more computer laboratories to facilitate the computer classes so that students can benefit from these classes.
