Differential Equations

Credit Hour(s): 3+0

Course Code: MS-113

Course Learning Objective:

Introduce students to the concepts, solution and Applications of Differential Equations of 1 st
order, 2nd order and higher order with engineering applications. In addition, basic concepts
and formation of partial differential equations (PDE), D’ Alembert's solution of the wave
equation and two dimensional wave equations; Lagrange's solution and Various standard
forms with relevant Engineering Applications. Last but not the least, detailed analysis of
Laplace Integral & Transformation and Inverse Laplace Transforms with relevant proves.

Course Learning Outcomes:

Having successfully completed the course, you will be able to demonstrate knowledge and
understanding of:
 [CLO:1] Have sufficient knowledge of Differential Equations to analyze physical
models and understanding them further to find natural and forced response of
different electrical circuits (RL.RC, RLC Circuits) using ODEs.
 [CLO:2] Find general solutions to first-order, second-order, and higher-order
homogeneous and non-homogeneous differential equations, Identify and apply initial
and boundary values to find particular solutions to first-order, second-order, and
higher order homogeneous and non-homogeneous differential equations, and analyze
and interpret the results as well.
 [CLO:3] Select and apply appropriate methods to solve differential equations; these
methods will include, but are not limited to, undetermined coefficients, variation of
parameters, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, Laplace and inverse-Laplace transforms.

Assignments:
Assignments would be assigned at least one before the Mid-term and must be submitted on
or before due date. No late assignment will be accepted. Total of 2 assignments would be
assigned during the semester. You have to be very careful while you are solving your
assignment. Please do not try copy from someone else in order to avoid any problem at the
end of the semester.

Class Quizzes:
To check the class performance, sudden death test or class quizzes would be taken in class
throughout the semester. At least 5 quizzes would be taken during the semester. These
quizzes have to be solved in the class and they would be of short duration. There would be no
LATE submission or MAKEUP for these quizzes.
