Unit – 01
1 – Capital letters and small letters
(Initially the first 10 periods teacher will take revision of the capital letters with its sound and
vocabulary through different activities. Simultaneously teacher will also show them small
letters so that the children gets acknowledged. Various art integrated activities will be
conducted to develop pre- writing skills.)

Period- 1
Detail planning:
• Teacher will start the class with greeting, asking about today’s
date and day also about weather outside.
• Teacher will begin the with a good morning song from the
Teaching above Rote learning video.
Method • Teacher will play the Rote learning videos 2&3 .
• Teacher will motivate the children to sing, dance and enjoy the
video.
Teacher will bring toy fruits or show images or flash cards of Apple,
Orange, Grapes, watermelon, kiwi.
She will ask students to guess the names of fruits.
(Note: while guessing the names teacher will make sure that children
are giving answer in full sentences. E.g. this is an apple, these are
grapes, teacher can also ask more questions about their colour, taste,
their favourite fruit etc. to improve their communication skill.)
Then she will ask about the starting letter of the fruit and sound of the
letter. As the children says the starting letter, she will ask them to find
that letter from flash card basket and give it to her. (teacher will keep
the capital letters flash cards in the basket). E.g. Apple – A. she will
then introduced small letter with that by showing flash card.
By showing both capital and small letter flash card, she will ask
children if they know about more things with starting same letter.

Teacher will interact with children asking following question to
start the topic.

3. Which is your favourite animal?
4. Do you have a pet animal at your home? What is it’s name?
5. Can you make a sound of dog or a cat?
6. Can you tell me few animal names which lives in a jungle?
Teacher will bring toy animals or show images or flash cards of cat,
dog, rabbit, zebra, lion
She will ask students to guess the names of animals.
(Note: while guessing the names teacher will make sure that children
are giving answer in full sentences. teacher can also ask more
questions about their colour, sound they make, their home etc. to
improve their communication skill.)
Then she will ask about the starting letter of the animal and sound of
the letter. As the children says the starting letter, she will ask them to
find that letter from flash card basket and give it to her. (teacher will
keep the capital letters flash cards in the basket). E.g. Cat – C. she will
then introduced small letter with that by showing flash card.
By showing both capital and small letter flash card, she will ask
children if they know about more things with starting same letter.

Then she will ask about the starting letter of the body parts & the
letter sound. As the children says the starting letter, she will ask them
to find that letter from flash card basket and give it to her. (teacher
will keep the capital letters flash cards in the basket). E.g. eye – E she
will then introduced small letter with that by showing flash card.
By showing both capital and small letter flash card, she will ask
children if they know about more things with starting same letter.
After children’s turn teacher will introduce more vocabulary related
to the letter by showing videos (video links are given below).

Rangoli / sand tray
required:
Teacher will give a Sand Or Rangoli tray to the group of children.
Teacher can say the sound of letter ask the children to identify and
draw that letter with their pointer finger.
Teacher can show the vocabulary and ask the children to identify the

quoits, umbrella, utensils, vase, van, vegetables, xylophone, yoyo,
yellow, yarn.
She will ask students to guess the names of that objects.
(Note: while guessing the names teacher will make sure that children are
giving answer in full sentences. E.g. this is a quilt, this is an umbrella
teacher can also ask more questions about the colour ,size, quality of
that objects to improve their communication skill.)
Then she will ask about the starting letter of the object and sound of the
letter. As the children says the starting letter, she will ask them to find
that letter from flash card basket and give it to her. (teacher will keep the
capital letters flash cards in the basket). E.g. Q-tip quilt she will then
introduced small letter with that by showing flash card.
By showing both capital and small letter flash card, she will ask children
if they know about more things with starting same letter. Teacher will
ask students to look around to find more letter related vocabulary (like:
book, desk, chalk, bottles etc.)
