SETTING CAMERA FOR, AUTOMATIC FILTER
I FACTOR, COMPENSATION

When o filter is used to obtoin normol color rendilion in block & white or lo correct color costs in color
t phoiogrophy, these filters cut out o poriion of the normol color spectrum, resulting in q loss of tight
reoching the film. To compensote for this light loss the filter monufocturers hove colculoted o mothem, rricol
multiplying foctor which is divided inio the shutter speed or operture opening.
Vorying with the sensitiviiy ond color response chorocteristics of the film emulsion, these foc?ors qll6'v tlre
photogropher to recolculote the exposure ond obtoin correctly-exposed negotives.
I Exompfe : Assuming o filter focior of X2 for o yellow filter ond film with on ASA 200 index with o n?rmol
exposure reoding colling for o shutter speed of l2A0 ot f ,l 6, you could divide the f octor into
1

either, giving l/tOO ot f:16 or l/200 ot f'8. A simplier method is to divide the filter foctor
into the ASA speed ond set the result in the ASA Indicotor Window. This ollows you to use
the meter to obtoin the correct exposure outomoticolly.

NOTE : Reset the ASA speed when filter is noi in use.

Mony photogrophers keep on UV filter on the comero to protect ihe lens f rom dust ond cuts
hoze. lt requires no filter foctor in either block & white or color photogrophy.
When you focus lhe comero on o subiect there is o
certoin distonce in front qnd back of the subiect within
which other obiectr will olro qppeqr shorp. Thir is
known or the "Depth-of-Ficld", ond il voriet wilh fhe
lenr operlure, fhe rmoller the operiure the greoter the
Depth-of-Field; it ir much lorger ot f rl6 thon ot f :1.8.
The Depth-of-Field Scqle will be found on top of the
lenr mount directly in front of the focusing scole. You
will nolice thot on either ride of the red diomond is o
similor set of numbers which represent the lens opertures.
When the comero is focused on your subiecf, look for
lhe operture you ore using on either side of the scole
to delermine the Depth-of-Field.
Thus, if the comero is focused ot 7 feel ond the lens
operture is f ,16, the Depth-of-Field (oreo in which oll
obiects ore shorp) is from obout J ft. to 16 ft.
You con employ depth-of-f ield lo use your Yoshico LYNX
