Gumdrop’s Body
GAUGE
Gauge is very important for this model! If you crochet too tightly, it may be difficult or
impossible to flip your model inside out. Follow the gauge pattern below to make a 3D
swatch to confirm your tension. Use 1 strand of Honey Bunny combined with 1 strand of
Friends Cotton (crocheting with both strands together at the same time), and your 6 mm
hook.
The gauge pattern produces a 3D dome. Flatten it so the opening becomes a slit, then
measure it from side to side and from top to bottom. Your swatch should be 9 cm across X
7.5 cm tall / 3.5” X 3”. If it’s smaller, remake the swatch with looser tension until the size is
correct, then use that tension throughout your project. It is also an option to switch to a
larger hook.
MOUTH
TOP JAW
Make 2.
Work with colors A+B and a 6 mm hook.
R1: 6SC in MR. Do not weave in the starting thread until directed. (6)
Make the second top jaw, but do not tie off at the end (note the use of different colored
markers to the first top jaw). Weave in the starting thread at the MR, then proceed with
joining the two as directed below.
Flip the bottom jaw so the last row you worked is WS up. Flip the top jaws so that the joining
row is WS up. This is the RS of the top jaw. Starting in the marked sts of R4 on the top jaws
and working into both top jaws simultaneously, 17SC. Starting in the 1st DC on R4 of the
bottom jaw, 15SC. (32)
R2: In BLO of R1, mark the 1st and last SC. Work in FLO for this round. 1SC, SC-inc, 13SC,
SC-inc, 16SC. (34)
TAIL
Continued from R33 of the body
R34: 4SC, SC-dec, 10SC, SC-dec, 8SC. (24)
R35: 9SC, SC-dec, 10SC, SC-dec, 1SC. (22)
R36: 3SC, SC-dec, 9SC, SC-dec, 6SC. (20)
R37: *8SC, SC-dec* X 2. (18)
R38: 3SC, SC-dec, 7SC, SC-dec, 4SC. (16)
R39: *6SC, SC-dec* X 2. (14)
R40: 2SC, SC-dec, 5SC, SC-dec, 3SC. (12)
R41: *4SC, SC-dec* X 2. (10)
R42: 1SC, SC-dec, 3SC, SC-dec, 2SC. (8)
Tie off and sew the opening closed like a drawstring, working in FLO. Weave in the loose
ends. Do not remove the remaining clip-on markers.
Juju’s Body
MOUTH
Begin with colors C+D and a 6 mm hook.
Remove the markers on R2 of Gumdrop’s head as you reach them (the pink markers
pictured below).
R1: Mark the 1st SC, the 27th SC and the last SC on this row in FLO as you work them,
and do not remove these markers until directed. Flip Gumdrop’s body inside-out. Return
to R2 of the head where the BLO remains unworked. Join with a SS in the 1st marked st (near
the top jaw), with the tip of your hook pointing away from Gumdrop’s tail. Tuck Gumdrop’s
jaws inside the head. Ch1, 32SC (finish in the last marked st). Join with a SS in the 1st st. (32)
Tie off.
During the following rounds, you’ll create a color pattern of dots and dashes alternating
between colors C+D and colors E+F. For easy reading, C+D will be referred to as “pink” and
E+F will be referred to as “white” in the following directions.
TIP: Do not carry the yarn along by crocheting over it every time you change color; simply drop the
old color and pick it up again when you need it. Only carry the yarn along by crocheting over it
when specifically directed. After your last white st in a round, crochet your next 2 pink sts over the
white yarns to secure them, then drop the white yarns.
Color distribution for R2: After pink sts, alt *1 white, 1 pink* X 8. Once the color pattern is
complete, remember to crochet over the white yarns for 2 sts before dropping them.
Remember to finish all rounds with pink after a color pattern is complete and continue with
pink up to the next color pattern.
R3: Remember to continue with pink up to the next color pattern. 9SC, SC-inc, 17SC, SC-inc,
6SC. You can now fold your work back, onto Gumdrop’s head, flipping the sts of this round RS
up. (36)
For the next round, when you need to change to white, simply pick up white and draw it
across the body to your hook, leaving the strands laying loosely across the body’s WS. Don’t
create any tension on these strands, to prevent them from pulling on the body. For your first
white stitch, crochet over the strands to secure them. Apply this every time you work a long
white portion.
Color distribution for R4: After pink sts, alt *1 white, 1 pink* X 8. 1 white. Continue with
pink.
Color distribution for R6: After pink sts, alt *1 white, 1 pink* X 10. Continue with pink.
12SC 8SC
Color distribution for R8: After pink sts, alt *1 white, 1 pink* X 11. Continue with pink.
TIP: When working longer white portions in the subsequent rows, carry the pink along
as you go by crocheting over it.
13SC 9SC
Color distribution for R10: After pink sts, alt *1 white, 1 pink* X 3. 10 white. Then alt *1
pink, 1 white* X 3. Continue with pink.
14SC 10SC
Color distribution for R12: After pink sts, alt *1 white, 1 pink* X 3. Alt *2 white, 2 pink*
X 2. 2 white. Then alt *1 pink, 1 white* X 3. Continue with pink.
14SC 9SC
Color distribution for R14: After pink sts, alt *1 white, 1 pink* X 3. 13 white. Then alt *1
pink, 1 white* X 3. Continue with pink.
Color distribution for R16: After pink sts, alt *1 white, 1 pink* X 2. Then 2 white, 2 pink, 2
white, pink-dec, 2 white, 2 pink, 2 white. Then alt *1 pink, 1 white* X 2. Continue with pink.
R17: 14SC, SC-dec, 4SC, SC-dec, 8SC, SC-dec, 4SC, SC-dec, 7SC. (41)
R18: 13SC, SC-dec, *8SC, SC-dec* X 2, 6SC. (38)
Color distribution for R18: After pink sts, 8 white, white-dec, 8 white. Continue with pink.
Color distribution for R20: After pink sts, alt *2 white, 2 pink* X 4. Continue with pink.
Color distribution for R22: After pink sts, 16 white. Continue with pink.
12SC 4SC
Color distribution for R25: After pink sts, alt *2 white, 2 pink, 2 white*. 3 pink. Then repeat
from * to * once. Continue with pink.
Color distribution for R28: After pink sts, 13 white. Continue with pink.
12SC
Color distribution for R31: After pink sts, alt *2 white, 2 pink* X 4.

R41: Crochet over the white ends for a few sts as you go to secure them. 1SC, SC-dec,
3SC, SC-dec, 4SC. (10)
