Plan of Action

Committee – UNOOSA
Agenda - Planning the movement of people between Earth and Mars
Date – 29th April, 2040

Summary
Humanity has made leaps and bounds in the domain of space exploration with currently 50,000
researchers and scientists residing on Mars on several outposts and base camps. As discussed in
the committee, huge investments in this field will be required for the full colonization of Mars.
UNOOSA’s focus should be on developing sustainable technologies and practises that minimize
negative impact on Earth and Mars, thus ensuring the safety and well-being of the individuals
involved. The system Architecture of Flight to Mars was also intensively discussed in the
committee yesterday, with the delegates reaching the consensus of calculating the route of least
fuel usage, hence, minimizing our carbon footprints. In conclusion, space exploration and
colonization have the potential to bring significant benefits to humanity.

I. Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants should be in the age group of 26-40
- Able to pass psychological, physical fitness, and social tests conducted by UNPSA
- The program should include training on living in a reduced gravity environment,
conducting scientific experiments, and emergency procedures.

II. Develop a reusable spacecraft with sustainable fuel source

- A spacecraft that can be used for multiple missions will reduce costs and make
transport more efficient.
- A more powerful and fuel-efficient propulsion system. Electric propulsion systems
are also prevalent.
- Trip from Earth to Mars uses Hydrogen and VASIMR plasma-based propulsion
system which enables varying thrust. Since hydrogen is present universally it allows
for future colonization opportunities.
- Using hydrogen as a fuel source provides protection from radiation exposure.
- Methane will be used as fuel for the return trip from Mars to Earth. Rovers will be
used to extract methane from the surface of Mars.
III. Payload Capacity
- Miniature technologies by 3D printing should be used in space crafts to reduce
weight and increase capacity for people and equipment.

IV. Establish a Mars base

- A base on Mars that should serve as a hub for future missions and make transport
more efficient.
- The base should be capable of supporting human life for extended periods and have
the necessary equipment for scientific research.

V. Develop a launch system

- A launch system that can transport the spacecraft and its crew to Mars efficiently is
necessary.
- The system should be capable of rapid and safe launches to minimize delays and
ensure the safety of the crew.

VI. Trajectory
- A minimum fuel using conjunction class trajectory is used.
- The conjunction class trajectory makes travel time in space less reducing health
impacts. Such a trajectory carries greater payloads and enables people to spend
more time on Mars which allows them to aptly judge if they want to stay.
- Upon returning to Earth, rockets carry returning passengers and resources from
Mars which make up for the lack of them on Earth.

VII. Partner with other countries and private companies

- Partnering with other countries and private companies will provide resources and
expertise to achieve efficient transport.
- The collaboration will also provide opportunities for joint scientific research and
exploration.

VIII. Material of the Space Craft

- The spaceship would need to be made of lightweight, strong materials like advanced
composites, titanium alloys, or carbon fibers to withstand the harsh conditions of
space travel.

IX. Life Support

- Life-support systems the spaceship would need to be equipped with life-support
systems to provide oxygen, water, and food for the crew during the journey.
- Food (including meat and plants) will be cultivated by Scaffold culture. Genetically
modified plants will also be used to increase yield.
- Ammonia pipelines act as refrigerators.
- Piezoelectricity provides for energy needs inside the shuttle.
- The Space shuttle will have artificial gravity to prevent health effects produced via
centrifugal force by the rotation of certain parts of the shuttle.
- The environment of the shuttle will simulate Earth's environment.
- Recreation facilities are provided in the shuttle.
- Adsorption technologies will enable recycling.
- Electrolysis of water will provide for cabin air supply

X. Crew and luggage accommodations

- The spaceship would need to be designed with comfortable and safe
accommodations for the crew, including sleeping quarters, exercise facilities, and
areas for recreation and relaxation.
- Inflatable storage compartments should be used to modify the storage capacity
based on the luggage
Overall, the spaceship would need to be a highly advanced and carefully designed vehicle,
incorporating the latest technology and engineering techniques to ensure the safe and efficient
transport of people to Mars.
