MISSING PERSONS

MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
PRESENTED BY;
KAMBO THOMAS KARURI
REG NO:CIT/2022/45425
INTRODUCTION
The global landscape of law enforcement and public safety has undergone
significant transformations with the advent of technology. However, one
critical aspect that continues to pose challenges is the management of
missing persons cases. In recent years, the increasing complexity of
society, coupled with advancements in communication and mobility, has
underscored the need for a robust and efficient Missing Persons
Management System (MPMS).
INTRODUCTION CONT
• Moreover, the impact of social media and digital communication on missing
persons cases cannot be understated. The speed at which information can
be disseminated is unparalleled, but it also presents challenges in terms of
misinformation and data overload. The MPMS will integrate with these
communication channels, harnessing their potential while maintaining
accuracy and reliability in the dissemination of information related to
missing persons.
• In crafting the background study for the Missing Persons Management
System, it became evident that the existing methods were not equipped to
meet the demands of the modern era. The MPMS, by embracing technolog
aims to revolutionize how missing persons cases are reported, managed,
and resolved. The integration of advanced search algorithms, real-time
collaboration tools, and secure data storage mechanisms positions the
system as a comprehensive solution to the multifaceted challenges posed
by missing persons cases.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
• The project problem statement revolves around the current
inefficiencies and challenges in handling missing persons cases.
Manual processes often lead to delays, miscommunication, and
ineffective coordination among relevant authorities. The MPMS seeks
to address these issues by providing a centralized and automated
platform for the systematic management of missing persons cases.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
• Facilitating prompt reporting and documentation of missing
persons cases.
• Enhancing collaboration and communication among law
enforcement agencies, social services, and the community.
• Implementing advanced search and matching algorithms to
expedite the identification and location of missing individuals.
• Improving data security and privacy measures to ensure the
protection of sensitive information.
JUSTIFICATION OF THE STUDY
• The implementation of a Missing Persons Management System is
justified by the urgent need to modernize and streamline the
process of handling missing persons cases. The system's benefits
include faster response times, improved collaboration, and a
higher success rate in resolving cases, ultimately leading to
enhanced public safety and well-being.
SCOPE OF THE STUDY
• The scope of the MPMS encompasses the entire missing
persons management lifecycle, from initial reporting to
resolution. This includes the development of a user-friendly
interface, integration with existing databases, and the
implementation of advanced analytics to aid in decision-
making and resource allocation.
LITERATURE REVIEW
• Local Server-Based MPMS: In this traditional approach, the Missing
Persons Management System is implemented and deployed on a
local server situated within the law enforcement or relevant agency
responsible for managing missing persons cases. Typically handled
by designated personnel, such as law enforcement officers or case
managers, these systems can be challenging to use and implement
due to variations in requirements across different jurisdictions and
agencies.
MATERIALS
XAMPP:
XAMPP acts as a local server for MPMS. It is a free and open-
source cross-platform web server solution stack package
developed by Apache Friends. Comprising the Apache HTTP
Server, MySQL database, and interpreters for PHP and Perl,
XAMPP simplifies the process of setting up a local web server
for testing and deployment. Its cross-platform compatibility
ensures seamless operation on Linux, Mac, and Windows.
MATERIALS
Tailwind CSS:
Tailwind CSS was used to style the user interface (UI) of the
MPMS. As a utility-first CSS framework, Tailwind CSS provides a
flexible and efficient way to design and customize UI
components. Its modular approach enables the creation of a
cohesive and visually appealing interface for the MPMS.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
• Observations:
• The methodology involves systematically observing current
missing person management processes and operations. This
technique enables a detailed, context-specific understanding of
how the existing system operatesty to evolving events.
• Questionnaires:
• Structured questionnaires will be prepared and distributed to
relevant stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, social
services, and community members involved in missing persons
cases. This technique facilitates a deeper insight into users'
expectations, challenges and requirements
SYSTEM DESIGN
• Interface design
• The system was created with the following design considerations in mind:
• Consistent. The system should have a similar look and feel on every page.
Every page should have the same header/logo, heading style, fonts,
navigations etc.
• Efficient and easy to maintain. This refers to the fact that there is a need to
separate content from layout, so that you can easily change your page design
without editing every page on the site.
• Layout. The layout of each page should have a good contrast between the text
and background area. This helps considerably with visibility as it will be
difficult to read the text if it is almost the same color as the background.
Monitor size should also be considered.
• Easy to navigate and use. Users should have no trouble navigating the site.
Navigation links should be consistent and clearly labeled. All navigation links
should also be working properly and should point to the intended page/site.
