Zero and First Conditional
Zero and First Conditional
ZERO CONDITIONAL
The zero conditional is normally used to talk about facts and to express general
truths. We use the zero conditional to talk about things that are always true.
FIRST CONDITIONAL
We use the first conditional when we talk about real and possible situations. This type
refers to future possibilities that are certain or probable.
Alex is a young student who lives in a small town. Every morning, he wakes up at 7:00
AM. If he doesn't wake up on time, he misses the school bus. So, he always sets an alarm
clock.
If it's a sunny day Alex likes to walk to school. He enjoys the fresh air and the warmth of
the sun. However, if it's raining, he takes his umbrella with him. He would prefer not to get
wet.
At school, Alex studies hard because he knows that if he gets good grades, he will have
more opportunities in the future. His favourite subject is English, and if he finishes his
homework early, he treats himself with a piece of chocolate.
In the afternoon, if his friends invite him to play soccer, he gladly joins them. He loves
sports, and if they win the game, they will celebrate it at the restaurant.
At bedtime, Alex thinks of his day. He's grateful for the opportunities he has. If he works
hard and follows his dreams, he knows he can achieve anything he wants.
