1.- PURPOSE AND SCOPE

The purpose of this procedure is to establish the general standards to be applied in the dye
penetrant inspection of machined areas in valves manufactured by POYAM Valves.

The extension and application of the inspection is undertaken in accordance with the
corresponding drawing and specification, covering the machined parts therein defined.

3.- GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

3.1. Preparation

The required examinations shall be performed when the material are in the final form.

All non-destructive examinations shall be performed by personnel certified in

compliance with ASNT recommended practice SNT-TC-1A with at least a level 2
qualification and Requirements of EN 473, if permitted by the code of construction.

NDT operator qualification shall be approved by a third party organization

recognized by an EC member State.

3.2. Test pieces size

The quantity to be inspected shall be indicated on the purchaser order or on the customer's
specifications.

Rejected pieces may be resubmitted for reinspection only after all defects have been
removed.

3.3. Weld repairs

(1) Unacceptable discontinuities which are revealed by inspection shall be removed by

chipping or grinding.

Repair welding shall be conducted by procedures, welders and operators qualified in

accordance with ASME Section IX .

After weld repair, repaired pieces shall be suitably heat treated, if this is specified in the
relevant material specification.

All repairs shall be reinspected using the same procedure which disclosed the
discontinuity originally and shall meet the same acceptance standards.

4.- EXAMINATION METHOD

4.1. Dye penetrant examination

Dye penetrant examination shall be performed in accordance with ASTM E-165 and
ASME Section V, Article 6.

4.2. Products used

The products used must be visibly penetrating and removable with a solvent, type B-3, in
compliance with ASTM E-165. All products used must have a corresponding supplier's
guarantee certificate quoting sulphur and halogen content. The maximum permissible
amount being 1%. And the penetrant used on Stainless shall be of special type and contain
Chloride + Fluoride content less than 1%.

Products used are supplied by Brent Iberica, according to the following:

Penetrant: ARDROX 996P

Eliminator: ARDROX 9PR5
Developer: ARDROX 9D1B

4.3. Surface preparation

The area to be examined, and a surrounding area of 25 mm must be free of rust, dust, oil,
grease and any other extraneous substance. Solvents or other commercial products should
be used to clean the surface.

The pieces should be left to dry for at least 5 minutes. If the pieces are of austenitic
stainless steel, scratch brushes of the same material should be used.

4.4. Penetrating liquid application

It is sprayed onto the piece, or area to be examined. The latter should be at a temperature
between 16 and 40º C.

The penetrating liquid takes between 10 and 30 minutes to take effect, in accordance with
the manufacturer's recommendations and ASTM E-165.

4.5. Penetrating liquid removal

Any excess liquid is removed by using wipers of a dry, clean, unfrayed cloths and
repeating the operation until most traces of penetrant have been removed. Then using a
clean cloths lightly moistened with solvent remover the remaining traces are gently
wiped to avoid removing penetrant from discontinuities.

The piece is then left to dry for 5 minutes.

Care should be taken not to remove penetrant retained by defects.

4.6. Applying the developer

(1) The developer is sprayed on to give a thin, even layer. As soon as practical after removal
of excess penetrant (max. time lapse 5 mins). It should be well shaken to provide a
homogenous covering. Refer to the manufacturer´s instructions for correct spray distance.

The final inspection is carried out between 10 and 30 minutes after the developer has
been applied. The surface which has been treated should be examined thoroughly,
especially the points or areas which are coloured, so that the type and gravity of the defect
may be more effectively evaluated.

(1) Visible penetrant indications are examined in either material or artificial light. Adequate
illumination is required to ensure no loss in sensitivity of the examination. The light
intensity at the examination surface shall no be less than 1000 lux.

If there is a danger that the residue of products used may interfere with successive
treatment or processes of the areas inspected, this residue must be completely removed, as
described in 4.3.

4.7. Evaluation

All dye penetrant evaluation results are compiled in the "Dye penetrant Report". The
layout should follows the example attached.

The acceptance level is in compliance with ASME Section VIII, Division 1, Appendix 8.
