SYNOPSIS

IMPACT OF LABOUR LAWS ON EMPLOYEES AND


EMPLOYERS TO ENHANCE THE INTER PERSONAL
RELATIONSHIP- WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO SAINT-
GOBAINS INDIA PVT. LTD, PALAKKAD

INTRODUCTION.

Labour laws serve to be the foundation for the establishment of smooth relationship among
employees and employers in an organization. The rights and responsibilities of both parties as
established in the various labour laws including Factories Act, 1948; Employees State
Insurance Act, 1948 etc. contributes to the development of harmonious and productive work
atmosphere inculcating mutual respect, trust and cooperation. By adhering to the labour laws
and requirements the employers can depict their commitment towards ethical and social
responsibility and this also ensures the fairness in the activities within an organization.
Promoting an environment for continuous improvement and mutual support for enhancing the
skills and competencies, labour laws also assures the professional growth. By establishing
and practicing the core labour laws within the organization foster a sense of loyalty leading to
stronger bonds and more collaborative work experience.

This study aims to understand the fair and equitable treatment, the clear expectations and the
mechanisms for conflict resolution in workplace. A provision relating to the workplace safety
and health create a secured environment and boosts a sense of trust among the employees and
employers. The guidelines for recruitment, selection, training, appraisal and grievance
redressal mechanism are studied in an organization.

Data for this research study were collected in one of the top glass manufacturing company
offering a variety of glass products and solutions - Saint Gobains India Pvt. Ltd., Palakkad
whose headquarters are situated at Paris, France. The research was set to examine the
application of the labour laws and employees welfare within the organization.

This aims to provide an insight regarding the legal framework for the labours for enhancing
the interpersonal relationship among employees and employers and this study will help to
understand the grey areas in an industry where attention is required for the establishment of a
safe and harmonious work place.
IMPORTANCE OF THE STUDY

The reasons for the labour laws application within an organization includes:-

1. Fair treatment :- with the appropriate measure of various labour laws can help the
employees as well as the employers to understand their rights and responsibilities and
thus the unwanted domination and disputes and can be consciously avoided. This
legal framework helps the organization to maintain the fair treatment.
2. Legal compliance:- when there is a proper legal framework within an organization,
mandates the minimum wages and benefits, ensuring employees are fairly
compensated for their work thus reducing conflicts and increases productivity.
3. Employee well-being:- the labour laws aims to promote a healthy work life balance,
allowing them to fulfill their professional duties while also attending to their personal
and family needs. This will help them to contribute more on organization leading to
employees retention which enhances the overall inter personal relationship between
employees and employers.
4. Conflict resolution :- the labour law ensures fair treatment in the form of wages. The
anti discrimination laws ensure that the employees are not discriminated against based
on factors such as race, gender, religion, or disability. When the employees feel that
they are treated equally and fairly it fosters trust and respect towards higher
authorities leading to a stronger interpersonal relationship.

SCOPE OF THE STUDY

This study aims to identify the impact on the legal framework on the different classes of
employees and employers in an organization. This study explains how the Labour laws
including provisions for ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of employees prioritizes the
well-being of the employees by the employers hence complying with these provisions, it
demonstrates care and concern for their workforce. Through this study how the rights and
previleges are preferred or prioritised for encouraging and developing the employees and to
create a better relationship among the employees and employers is studied. With this study,
how the alternative conflict resolution mechanisms strengthens inter personal relationship
within the work place, removing the exploitation and discrimination, demonstrating the
professional upliftment is analyzed.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

1. To identify the employee welfare measures.


2. To analyze the factors promoting the employee-employer relationship.
3. To identify the effectiveness of the labour laws.
4. To identify the communication channels in the organization.
5. To suggest the remedial measures for the difficulties in an organization.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

The research methodology used for this study involves the specification of research design,
survey methodology, sample design, questionnaire design data collection and statistical tools
used for analyzing the collected data.

RESEARCH DESIGN

The descriptive research method is used for this study. Descriptive research aims to describe
characteristics or behaviors of a population or phenomenon without manipulating variables.
It’s about painting a clear picture of “what” exists, rather than explaining “why” it exists.
This research is conducted by collecting information through surveys, observations and
content analysis.

SAMPLING DESIGN

Sampling design refers to the methodical process of selecting a subset of individuals or items
from a larger population for the purpose of drawing conclusions about that population. It
involves considerations such as sample size, sampling method, and representatives to ensure
the validity and reliability of research findings.

 Sampling Size

The sampling size of the study is 50 respondents.

 Sampling Method

Random sampling method is the method used.

 Sampling Area

The area selected is Saint-Gobains India Pvt. Ltd, Palakkad.

 Period of Study

A study for 21 days conducted.

SOURCES OF DATA COLLECTION

1. Primary data: Primary data is the original data by a researcher directly from the
respondents which are not previously collected.
2. Secondary data: Secondary data is the data which is collected from already published
or complied for another purpose of study.

STATISTICAL TOOLS USED

Tools of data analysis

 Percentage analysis
 Simple average method.

Tools of data presentation

 Tables:- It helps in presenting data in concise and structured manner that helps to
organize large amounts of information, facilitate comparisons and enhances clarity of
research.
 Graphs and Charts:- It helps for the visual representation of data and trends, offering a
clear and concise way to communicate complex information thus increasing the
readability and impact of research findings.

LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

 The area of study is confined in Palakkad.


 The survey sample is limited to 50 respondents.
 Due to the short span of time, there was difficulty in finding the information.
 Information obtained may be affected by personal bias.
 The respondent may tend to disclose information unwillingly.
