INFORMATICS OLYMPIAD
TRAINING PROGRAM 2024

FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS
1) What is Informatics Olympiad?

Informatics Olympiad is one of the International Science

Olympiads. Its primary goal is to stimulate interest in
informatics (computer science) and information
technology.

2) What are the different stages in Indian Computing

Olympiad?

The first round of the Indian Computing Olympiad is in two

parts:

The Zonal Informatics Olympiad (ZIO) is a written

exam held at centers across the country.
The Zonal Computing Olympiad (ZCO) is a
programming exam held at centers across the country.
The programming languages supported are C, C++, Java
and Python.
Students can write either ZIO or ZCO or both and
qualify through either exam for the second round.

In the second round, i.e., Indian National Olympiad in

Informatics (INOI) involves programming. The only
programming language allowed for INOI is C++.

Approximately 30 students are selected from INOI for the

International Olympiad in Informatics Training Camp
(IOITC)

3) What is the eligibility to appear for The Indian
Computing Olympiad?

The Indian Computing Olympiad is open to all school

students across the country, from any school board.
Any student can register in school up to class 12
during the academic year. There is no lower age limit
for participation.

We would suggest that students should go through

past papers to understand which level best suits
them.

4) How much work is expected of the student?

The students will be given assignments and they

would be expected to give their best on the
assignments. Some of the problems might take days,
weeks or even more than a month to arrive at the
answer. Some, even beyond that. That is not because
the student is weak but rather the problems are quite
challenging. Solutions may not be presented easily
because the aim is not to look at a solution but to
struggle to find a solution. Through the process,
students will learn to deal with frustration and
develop patience and perseverance to deal with
problems. The student can expect to spend at least 3-
5 hours per week to do well on the homework.

5) Can we get any practice problems or study
material ?

Students can visit https://www.iarcs.org.in/inoi/online-

study-material/ for any practice problems or past
papers

6) What day/time is the class?

Mondays and Thursdays from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm

(IST)

The timings may be extended as the course

progresses and the days of the week can change if
there are some constraints (but that is less likely).
There may be extra sessions that may happen after
some months over and above the regular ones.

7) How will the live sessions be conducted?

The sessions will be conducted on the online platform

- 'Zoom'.

2
8) Can classes be rescheduled in case of an
emergency at the students' end?

This won’t be possible because it won’t be a one-on-

one session. All sessions will be recorded and
uploaded online so that students can go through the
recording if they miss any session.

9) If student misses a class, how can he/she catch

up?

They can catch up with the recordings.

10) Will there be doubt clarifying sessions?

Office hours (doubts clearing sessions) will be planned

periodically as and when there is a need from
students.

4
11) What is the course fee for Informatics OTP?

The foundation runs on donations. The donation for

each module for Informatics OTP is INR 18000. Early
bird benefit of INR 16000 is available if registered
before April 30, 2024 as long as the seats are not filled
in. The donor can make this donation towards the
foundation for sponsoring one student. Note that this
is not a course fee, but a donation for which you will
receive an 80G tax exemption receipt. Since it is a
donation, it won’t be refundable.

12) Can my child do a trial class as he/she is not

very sure if the class is a good fit?

The faculty are quite experienced and hence we don’t

think that a trial class might be necessary to check the
teaching methodology. Moreso, it may take a few
sessions for a student to get a hang of the topic.
Hence, we find doing a trial session does not help in
any way and for the same reason we don’t offer any
trial classes.

13) Will my child get personal attention?

Being an online session with a group of students, it

won’t be possible to give personalized attention.
However, their queries will be resolved during the
sessions.

the deadline i.e May 15, 2024. Your registration will be
considered as complete only after the payment for the
course is done in full.

15) What is the mode of payment?

Online. You need to make the payment through the

payment gateway that will be provided to your
account that you will create on
https://app.raisingamathematician.com/login when

16) Is there any provision to withdraw in between?

Will I get a refund if I do?
