Persuasion Paper

The document discusses criticisms of President Obama's healthcare reform plan. It argues that the plan is too costly, reduces Medicare funding, and increases taxes. It also claims the plan will lead to job losses and higher premiums for many Americans. The document supports the Republican alternative of expanding high-risk pools and reducing costs to increase access to affordable healthcare. It concludes that Obama should work with Republicans to change his healthcare plan for the benefit of the American people.

Running head: HEALTH CARE REFORM 1

Health Care ReIorm

Health Care ReIorm
The American health care system is in serious need oI a change. President Obama has
changed the health care system drastically. The problem with the new health care system is that
the majority oI the country does not like it (Kuhn, 2009). It is costly, and does not help out the
average person with their coverage (Kuhn, 2009). Obama believes that this is the way America
should go. UnIortunately that is not the truth, and there are plenty oI other options the president
can take to make the healthcare system better (Rove, 2009). The Obama health care system is
slowly destroying the American way oI liIe. II the necessary steps are not taken to stop these
actions, the American way oI liIe will be changed Iorever.
Obama`s health care plan will have a drastic negative eIIect on America (Klein, 2010).
The Iirst negative eIIect that this new health care plan will have on America is the price (GOP,
2008). It is not cheap to cover a whole nation with health care. With the United States already in
a huge debt, the last thing it needs is another costly addition. This new plan will cost almost a
trillion dollars. That is an incomprehensible amount oI money that the American people just
cannot aIIord right now. There are multiple other options that the Republicans have brought up,
which would be better Ior this country (GOP, 2008). Obama has ignored these ideas, and instead
pushed through a costly bill that most Americans do not approve oI. Another problem with this
new health care bill is the total coverage. The question that cannot be answered yet is how well
will this new health care system cover the average American person? There are some doctors
that are saying the new health care bill will not be able to cover the average person as well as
personal health care. Obama care is also an invasion oI people`s privacy. A lot oI people Ieel that
they do not need the government invading into their personal medical issues. Small government

is what has made the United States the country that it is. With Obama care government will
become bigger, and that is not the answer to the present health care problem.
'A government-run plan is not necessary Ior health care reIorm unless it is to use the
government`s power to drive down costs by rationing care, and slashing payments to
providers(Rove, 2009). II Obama wants to use his power so bad then there are multiple other
options Ior him. At some point in his term he is going to have to learn how to listen to the other
side oI the aisle. The Republicans have many other ideas Ior him that would work much better
Ior the American people. The one proposed by Karl Rove is just an example oI an idea that
Republicans have. II government could drive down prices oI coverage Ior people, more people
would be able to aIIord coverage (Rove, 2009). AIIordable coverage is better Ior the American
people than a Iull government run health care. II Obama would listen to other people, he would
be much better oII and maybe he would not have suIIered such a costly deIeat in the recent
midterms. Because he did Iorce this health care bill through, many people were upset and they
acted. These midterms truly show the distress that the American people have with Obama and his
health care plan. Now they want to see what Republicans can do, which Obama could have done
earlier, and would have put him in a much better position.
The new health care system does not solve the Iundamental problems in the Iormer
healthcare system (Klein, 2010). First, it does not reduce costs oI health care Ior people. It
simply moves Irom you personally paying Ior it to paying Ior it in your taxes. It will also
increase premiums Ior younger people which are not good Ior them because they will already be
in a hole. The majorities oI young people are already paying oII college, and are oIten low in
money. So how does this help out everyone? The answer is it doesn`t. Many people who are
expecting lower costs in health care will just end up paying more in premiums. The new health

care system also increases taxes directly onto the American citizen (Klein, 2010). This will cause
premiums to increase even beIore the many oI the reIorms take place. A major problem with the
health care system is the eIIect it has on Medicare. 'Obama`s health care reIorm will increase
premiums Ior prescription-drug coverage on seniors and disabled. (GOP, 2008) How can a
person increase costs Ior people that need it the most, and Ieel like he is helping out the whole
entire country. It does not make sense to punish the people Ior needing prescription drugs
because oI their age or disabilities. This bill will also cut around 500 billion dollars Irom
Medicare and 177 billion Irom Medicare Advantage (Kuhn, 2009). There is no way that
Medicare can provide their services to the elderly iI Barack Obama and his new health care
system keep cutting them out. This health care is not cheaper, and it does not help everyone out.
In Iact it only makes it more diIIicult Ior people to get the coverage they need. 'Government-run
health care is not the way to go (Rove, 2009), and someone needs to step in and tell Obama
or else his losses in the Senate and House will continue to pile up. It may also result in him
turning into a one term president.
There are very Iew socialist countries right now that are having success with a
government run health care system (Kuhn, 2009). Canada and Sweden, both with government
run health care systems, struggle to pay and support the needs oI the people. Many people Irom
that country are upset with their economic woes, some caused by the costly health care that the
government runs. Another way that the government run health care system will aIIect the
economy is job loss (GOP, 2008). Currently there is an extremely high amount oI people that are
jobless in this country. Once Obama care comes into play many people who work in the private
insurance business will lose their jobs, and companies will go out oI business. The economy is in
a slump and struggling to get out. By cutting out the private sector you cut out jobs. II more jobs

are cut, it will be more diIIicult Ior the economy to recover. American people like lower taxes
and less government, this bill is exactly the opposite oI that (Kuhn, 2009). This bill also shatters
any hope that Obama had in bipartisanship.
The Republican option is much more cost eIIective, and would be better Ior the masses
(Kuhn, 2009). It is also very simple, not a 1,990 page report with headers and Iooters that is just
plain conIusing. The Republicans Iocus on increasing coverage Ior every one by lowering health
care costs which would increase accessibility Ior everyone. 'The GOP plan creates Universal
Access Programs that expand and reIorm high risk pools and reinsurance programs that
guarantee all Americans, regardless oI preexisting conditions or past illnesses have access to
aIIordable health care, while lowering costs Ior all (GOP, 2008)). It also prevents insurance
companies Irom unjustly dropping a policy (Kuhn, 2009). The Republican health care plan will
lower costs oI health care without destroying jobs. This will beneIit the economy greatly, and
make the United States an even better place to live. II Obama would reach across the aisle and
maybe take just a Iew ideas Irom the Republicans, the country would be in a much better place.
The majority oI the people that live in this country just want it to be a better place, and the health
care bill is not doing that. It is not eIIective and will make it more diIIicult Ior people to pay Ior
it. Obama needs to learn Irom his recent losses in the House, and make some major changes to
the new health care system (Rove, 2009). This is a country Ior the people, and the people are
expressing their distraught in the President with the recent elections. II he does not make a
change to this horriIic health care bill than he will be in hot water come 2012. It is clear that the
health care system needs to be reIormed and the GOP has the ideas that are Ior the people.
Obama care is not Ior the people, and should not be allowed to stand! Steps have already been
taken to help get this terrible bill out oI here, and more steps need to be taken to get rid oI it

entirely. II the American people continue to show their anger towards this bill, maybe the
president will come to his senses and make a 'change Ior the betterment oI the country.
Obama care will not work out, and hopeIully the American people do not stand Ior it. The
Republicans have the correct ideas and can make this healthcare system much better. American
people just have to put their trust in the GOP. II they do this, the United States will continue its
tradition as a powerIul and wonderIul country to live in. The right side oI the aisle is Iocused on
the people because this is a country by and Ior the people. Obama, sadly, is not.
