Fancy Yarns

What are fancy yarns?

-In this category of yarns deliberate irregularities, discontinuities, and color

variations are introduced into the yarn structure with the primary intention of
enhancing aesthetical properties

-Fancy yarns are also known as the novelty yarns that include a wide range of
yarns made up of unusual features, structure or fiber composition.

-They enhance the visual and textural properties of the fabric

Slub Yarn
“Slubs are thick places in the yarn, added deliberately, that causes gradual discontinuity effect in
the yarn”- yarns containing slubs are called Slub Yarns
-A slub may be three or four times the thickness of the base yarn
-Slub yarns are used both in knitted and woven fabrics
-Slubs can also be produced by adjusting the card settings so that the fiber stock is ‘rolled’ to
form neps
-Factors determining the visual effect of slub yarn:
1) Number of slubs per kilometer
2) Diameter of slub
3) Length of slub
4) Distance between slub.
Properties of Slub yarns
1) High tensile strength
2) Abrasion resistant
3) Resistant to shrinkage
4) Durable in nature
5) Very cost-effective
Heather Yarn
-Also known as melange

-Heather yarn is made by using pre-dyed fibers.

-These fibers are blended to achieve a specific look. For

example, white and black can be mixed to create a
grey-colored heathered yarn.

-Heathered yarns have richer colors as a result of color

blending. These yarns are also known to have a better
texture than a yarn of the same type with just one color.
Chenille Yarn
-Chenille is a fuzzy cotton yarn that has pile
protruding around its surface.

-Chenille yarn can be used in either knit or woven

(weft) constructions.

-Because of its softness and velvet texture, it’s used

in blankets and sweaters

-Wrinkle resistant

-Easy to clean
Marl Yarn
-Marl yarns are piled yarns made by plying
two or sometimes more yarns together.
-The individual component yarns are usually
exactly the same in linear density and twist
but often differ in color or texture or both.
-Twisting these yarns creates a final yarn with
subtle color or texture variations.
-The colored yarns used in marl yarns can be
of different variety, shade or similar contrasts.
-The sustainability of marl yarn is a major
value-add for the product.
Boucle Yarn
-A bouclé yarn is a 3-ply yarn with a core yarn, a singles for looping, and a binder
yarn.

-Some fibers result in the large, open loops of a classic bouclé, while others
collapse and form more textured bumps.

-Most suitable for weft

Tape Yarn
-A flat, ribbon-like strip of material, such as
cotton or polyester, that is woven or knitted into
a continuous strand.

-Tape yarn is a versatile and durable

-Knitwear, woven fabrics, and home decor

items

-Thinner tape yarns are used to create

lightweight and breathable fabrics
