Welcome to
the 2024
NCDA Conference!

Welcome to San Diego and the 2024 Conference! We’re excited that you
have joined us to engage in learning and to contribute your knowledge
and insight on The Interconnection of Career Development and Mental
Health: Strategies and Techniques to Promote Well-Being and Success.
Our keynote speakers and presentation leaders will provide valuable
perspectives on the significance and importance of the intersection.

Recognizing the significance and the importance of interconnection

enables us to examine work experiences and thoughts and feelings that impact behavior
to define and redefine career choices, employment challenges and work/life balance. At
every stage of one’s academic and professional life, there are a new set of challenges
that arise. For most, learning the skills needed to overcome these challenges is crucial
for progressing to the next level of their chosen career path. For some, this progression
includes the added challenge of mental health concerns.

There are different levels of mental health issues/illnesses, uniquely experienced by

individuals at mild to moderate and unfortunately severe levels of distress. The potential
internal turmoil that mentally distressed people suffer can make coping with the
multitasking nature of the job search both overwhelming and discouraging. Ethics and
professional standards prevail that education and the encouragement of acceptance of
mental illness in a general sense can alleviate the stigma that hurts so many people.

The collaboration of career development practitioners and mental health professionals

helps the clients, students and our constituents define and ultimately redefine areas
of their life that may be hindering them. Collectively we can create opportunities to
encourage better career choices, healthier work environments, employee retention and
smoother transitions from work life to retired life by providing hope and a sense of
control and empowerment for those that we serve.

Please stop by the Exhibit Hall to access new information and technologies to assist us
in our work. And as you explore the Exhibit Hall, please thank our vendors and sponsors
who have helped to make this an exceptional conference. I also encourage you to come
to our Business Meeting to learn more about the work of the Association and our plans
for the future!

Enjoy the conference and San Diego!

Please join me in Atlanta for

the 2025 National Career
Development Association
annual conference! Our theme
is Autonomy to Change:
Evolving and Adapting Career
Development in Revolutionary
Times where we will explore the
drastic advancements in technology and the
impact on the entirety of career development.
Our conference takes place June 18th – 20th,
and on behalf of NCDA, we extend our deepest
homage to Juneteenth, a day commemorating
the emancipation of the last enslaved people in
Texas. Juneteenth serves as a poignant reminder
of the ongoing pursuit of freedom, equality, and
opportunity for all.

Furthermore, we acknowledge the profound

significance of Atlanta in the Civil Rights
Movement, where courageous leaders and
activists, such as Martin Luther King Jr. and John
Lewis, fought tirelessly for justice and equality.
Atlanta’s pivotal role in shaping the course of
NCDA Global Career
history through advocacy and empowerment
continues to inspire generations of career Development Conference
development professionals.
Atlanta Marriott Marquis
As we honor Juneteenth and recognize Atlanta’s
pivotal contributions, let us reaffirm our Atlanta, GA
commitment to advancing equity and opportunity
in career development for all individuals, June 18 – 20, 2025
irrespective of background or circumstance. I am
honored to serve in this role and value NCDA’s Pre–Conference, June 17, 2025
commitment to DEIAB and fostering leadership
that represents our membership.

Advents in technology create opportunities and

redundancies, excitement and fear, growth and
uncertainty. My goal is to bring together career
professionals from across the globe to connect,
collaborate, and kindle conversations to evolve
and adapt our field in unprecedented times. I
also encourage you to be an active collaborator
and submit an RFP to share your expertise and
lend to this pivotal conversation.

I sincerely hope to see you in Atlanta! Together

we can share laughter, stories, and knowledge
with our fantastic friends and colleagues.
